The Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer Is Wide and Powerful

Singer Vehicle Design has turned its attention to the classic 964 Porsche 911 Carrera and has reimagined it as a naturally aspirated widebody screaming coupe. This is far from the first classic Porsche model that the artisans at Singer have re-imagined but this time they were inspired by the a rare variant of the 80s 964 model 911 according to Singer Founder Rob Dickenson.

“In the 1980’s you could order a new 911 Carrera with the pumped-up bodywork of the Turbo but powered by the company’s latest, naturally aspirated flat six. It became known as the Carrera with Super Sport Equipment,” said Dickenson in a statement. “Our services reference this car and celebrate the era with a vision for an ultimate, naturally aspirated, G model 911, reimagined for the twenty-first century. At its heart is a remarkable flat-six, bringing together our learnings from the last fifteen years, and adding variable valve timing for the first time.”

How The Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe is Reimagined by Singer

To create the restomod, a 964 Porsche 911 Carrera donor car must first be submitted to the builders at Singer for the modification and restoration process. The owner will be involved every step of the way as each comissioned vehicle is personalized to the client’s preferences. Once Singer knows what the client wants the car is completely striped down to the steel monocoque chassis. From there the chassis is re-conditioned and stregnthened in a process that Singer co-developed with Red Bull Advanced Technologies. Then it’s a matter of reassembling the car with a new modern powertrain, suspension, brakes, custom interior and custom paint to make what’s old, new again.

Screaming Flat Six

Like the rest of the car, the 964’s engine is completely re-built, as a 4.0 liter flat-six engine that revs to over 8,000 RPM and is good for 420 horsepower. To build the engine, Singer’s engineers relyed on much of what was learned from the DLS engine and applied it here, sans turbo. It’s also the first engine done by Singer to feature variable valve timing. That should make drivability a bit more comfortable for the everday stuff, but how many clients are actually going to drive this car every day? Regardless, the driving experience should be more comfortable on city streets and wilder on the track. The engine will send all of its power to the rear wheels via a six speed manual gearbox.

You Can’t Have One Even if You Have the Money

Singer didn’t share the going price of what it would cost for them to reimagine someone’s 964 Porsche 911 Carrera, but since each build will be technically custom it will vary on a case by case basis. However Singer comissions have been known to fetch seven-figure price tags and there’s not much reason to believe that will be any different in this case. Though, even if you had a few mill in the bank account to spend, Singer is limiting the comissions for Carrera to just 100 examples, two of which have already been built and are featured in the images you see here.

It’s highly likely that by the time you read this the other 98 slots will have already been snapped up by Singer’s loyal clientelle. If you are one of the lucky few to get one then hopefully we’ll see you at a Cars & Coffee.
