Vin Diesel Says ‘Fast And Furious’ TV Show Coming to Peacock
Even though the final film in the Fast and Furious franchise is coming in a few years, it looks like the adventures of “the family” will continue on the small screen. According to a report from Variety, Vin Diesel took the stage at an NBC Universal upfronts event and revealed that a Fast and Furious TV show is in development for the Peacock streaming service.
“For the last decade, we have realized that the fans have wanted more,” said Diesel while standing on stage next to “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon. “They wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space that Fallon has mastered. And I had to wait till it was right… It became right when Donna Langley started to oversee it all, because that’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family would be protected in the TV space… The news that I have here today is that Peacock is launching four shows from the ‘Fast and Furious’ universe.”
While Diesel said that there are four different Fast and Furious shows in the works, one of Variety‘s sources confirmed that only one is in serious development. The other three are still in “various stages” of development.
It isn’t clear if Diesel or any of the original Fast Saga cast will star in the show, but Diesel will be an executive producer. Plot details are being held back, but if I had to make a guess, I’d say the show probably revolves around a group of street racers from Toretto’s crew that get recruited by a shadowy government agency and sent on missions that require their unique skills and uncanny driving abilities. Just a wild guess…
Diesel promised the show will “honor the legacy” of the film series, so we can probably also expect a bit of camera-winking cheesiness, humor, and a ton of action. Though considering the production budget per episode is definitely going to be much less than that of a Fast and Furious film, the stunts will probably be more practical and less reliant on CG effects. That could actually make for a better viewing experience, in my opinion.
No other word was given on an expected release window for the show. If I had to guess, I would say the show could be released within a six-month window of the last film in the franchise Fast Forever, which is set to come out sometime in 2028.
If this show makes it to production, then we’re all just one step closer to my dream of a Fast and Furious, Knight Rider, Airwolf, and The Fall Guy shared universe! Come on, Universal! Let’s make it happen!
