WATCH: Video Of The New Fast And Furious Rollercoaster Ride In Action

Over the last 24 years, the Fast & Furious film franchise—or Fast Saga—has spawned 10 movies, a spinoff film, several video games, and an animated series. Now Universal Studios is finally adding a rollercoaster to the Fast Saga‘s portfolio. It’s not the Fast & Furious-themed attraction at the park if you count the addtion that was made to the theme park’s “World Famous Studio Tour.” However, that addition has since been shut down. This new attraction is the first physical rollercoaster based on the Fast Saga.

Work on the coaster started years ago, but today Universal Studios revealed the attractions name along with other ride details. The official title of the attraction is “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” and if you’ve visited the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park at any time within the last 3 years or so, you’ve probably seen the ongoing construction winding around the theme park grounds. According to Universal Studios the ride has 4,100 feet of track which weaves over and under different areas of the park including the massive escalator that ferrys guests from the upper lot to the lower lot.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Ride Vehicles

There will be four ride vehicles featured on Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, but the first vehicle revealed is based on the 1970 Dodge Charger driven by Vin Diesel’s “Dominic Toretto” in nearly every Fast Saga film. The vehicle is surprisingly accurate for a rollercoaster emulation. It even features the massive blower protruding from the hood and the classic Dodge Charger front grille.

While not specifically mentioned by Universal Studios, the animatic video shows that the other ride vehicles are based on iconic cars from the film franchise like the Veilside widebody Mazda RX-7 from Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, the Blue 2002 R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R seen in Fast & Furious and F9, and finally the original orange Mark IV Toyota Supra from first film in the franchise, The Fast and the Furious. Currently the Dodge Charger ride vehicle is the only one on display at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Each ride vehicle can carry four passengers with two in the front and two in the back. Additonally each vehicle can rotate 360 degrees independently of the track position, which means the vehicles can simulate the sideways sensation of drifting, spinning out, or doing donuts. Universal Studios also says the ride will reach speeds up to 72 mph. That is certainly fast for a rollercoaster, but we reckon 72 mph likely the intial launch speed before gravity takes over for the rest of the ride.

When Does The Fast & Furious Ride Open?

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is set to open in 2026 and while we don’t have any official story details yet we do have some concept art of what the completed attraction will look like. While most of track will be outside it looks like guests will start in a building that could easly pass for a hideout or home base for Dominic and his “family” before taking off on the adventure.

What do you think of the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift? Would you take the ride? Or does it look too intense for your intestines?
