Acura Hunting Pikes Peak Record In Integra Type S Racecar
Acura is returning to Pikes Peak AKA “The Race to the Clouds” and this time the automaker will be armed with its new Integra Type S DE5 race car with Indy Car and IMSA veteran Katherine Legge at the wheel. Legge came just seconds short of breaking the front wheel drive record which was set by Acura engineer Nick Robinson in 2018 with a 500 horsepower TSX. Can Legge break the record in the Integra Type S race car? Pikes Peak is nothing if not unpredictable but Legge is laser focused on that specific target.
“It was an honor to compete in Pikes Peak for the first time in 2024, as I had always dreamt of being among the famous drivers who have tackled the mountain,” said Legge. “At Pikes Peak, you’re always competing against yourself, the mountain and the other drivers. It’s my goal to leave my own legacy, setting the front-wheel drive record in the Integra Type S DE5.” It’s a lofty goal figuratively and literally considering the 14,115 foot elevation of Pikes Peak.
The Integra Type S race car isn’t the only vehicle Acura is bringing to the Peak. The Integra Type S HRC Protoype will serve as the official Pikes Peak pace car for the event with U.S. Olympic bronze-medalist speed skater Rusty Smith behind the wheel. The pace car paring is no doubt another way for Acura to celebrate it’s involvement with Team USA and becoming the official transportation partner for the LA 28 Olympics. It’s also a great way for HRC to show off the shiny new performance bits that will eventually be made available to the public.
If you want to cheer on Katherine Legge in her quest to break the record or you want to see the Integra Type S HRC prototype scoot up the mountain, stay tuned for the 103rd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, on June 22.
