New Porsche 911 GT4 R Customer Racer Revealed

For race teams looking to step on the first rung of the Porsche Racing ladder, there is a new entry-level choice. With the 718 model stepping down from the lineup, it has been replaced with the new Porsche 911 GT4 R. This is the first time a 911 factory race car has been built specifically for global GT4-class racing. How did they conform a 911 to GT4-spec? Let’s dig in.

For starters, the 2027 Porsche 911 GT4 R has the same powertrain and gearbox as the Porsche 911 Cup car. That means a 4-liter flat-six engine that makes 512 horsepower, which is 12 horsepower more than the outgoing 718 GT4. However, under GT4 rules, power output can be adjusted using air restrictors to keep the competition balanced. The engine is mounted to a six-speed sequential transmission with dog-gears and a 4-disc racing clutch. The GT4 R also has wheels that are 1-inch narrower than those on a 911 Cup and use a five-bolt pattern rather than a center-lock design.

For weight savings, most of the 911 GT4 R’s body panels are made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). For downforce, an 11-position manually adjustable rear wing comes with the package.

Inside is a full roll cage built to global GT4 racing safety regulations, arguably the most important part of this customer race car. In front of the racing bucket seat is a 10.3-inch color display with built-in data logger and GPS system.

If you want to pick up your very own 911 GT4 R and start your racing journey with Porsche, it will set you back $375,000, including import and delivery to the United States. Not a small amount of money in general terms, but a relative bargain when it comes to factory race cars. Obviously, there are cheaper options out there like the Mazda MX-5 Cup car, but this is a Porsche we’re talking about here.

Exact release timing wasn’t provided, but Porsche promises the 911 GT4 R will be in the hands of customer racers in time for the 2027 motorsport season.
