Gran Turismo 7 Confirmed For 2021 Release [VIDEO]

This is a big week for gamers. The highly anticipated PlayStation 5 (PS5) is set to release just two days after the writing of this article.

Back in June during a livestream event, PlayStation gave the world its first look the official Gran Turismo 7 (GT7) trailer and even gameplay.

What the livestream didn’t provide was any clue whatsoever at a release date or even release window. Which is something I took to mean that GT7 would definitely not be a PlayStation 5 launch title.

There were already several reasons why GT7 being a launch title was unlikely, but not even hinting at a date during its reveal pretty much cemented it for me.

From there the question was: when would GT7 release? I suspected that players could be waiting as long as early 2022 for Gran Turismo 7 as game director Kazunori Yamauchi has no problem with holding off on releasing a game until he feels it meets his high standards.

Well it looks like PlayStation has given us some vague but official confirmation as to when we can expect GT7 to release on the PS5.

According to a new promotional video called “New Worlds To Explore” released on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, Gran Turismo 7 might release in the “first half of 2021”.

UPDATE 12-8-20: PlayStation has altered the original video with new text which no longer says Gran Turismo 7 will release in the “first half of 2021”. Now the text reads that Gran Turismo 7 is “in development”. Read more about the change here.

Original story continues below.

This is shown in some small print at the bottom of the video which can be easily missed if not paying attention. Though there is a reason why I used the word “might”.

The text says that GT7 has an “anticipated” release for the first half of 2021. “Anticipated” is a key word here as it is just short of a guarantee.

This verbiage was likely used to cover them just in case GT7 needs to be delayed. Considering the unpredictable nature of 2020, other high-profile games being delayed, and the perfectionist nature of Gran Turismo director Kazunori Yamauchi, a delay is not something that should be ruled out.

Despite that, I am still pretty hopeful and optimistic that Gran Turismo 7 will hit that window. If I were to speculate, I would guess that GT7 may drop in Summer 2021, likely just before or just after E3 2021 in June.

Do you think Gran Turismo 7 will come out within the first half of 2021? Or do you think it will release later than that. Let me know in the comments below or tweet to me at @MotorworldHype.
