Ka-Chow! Lighting McQueen Coming to LEGO Speed Champions

Arguably one of the coolest characters to ever come from Disney’s Pixar is finally getting their own Lego set. 7-time Piston Cup winner Lightning McQueen is coming to Lego’s Speed Champions series. Let me be the first to say it’s about dad-gum time!

Lego Speed Champions has been on a roll lately featuring sets from sought after sports cars like the Ferrari F40 and Porsche GT3 RS, to every F1 car currently on the grid, and cars from other movie franchises like the Fast Saga. However, this is the first time any character from Pixar’s Cars films has been part of the Speed Champions line. It’s baffling that it hasn’t happened already, but I digress.

The set re-creates Lightning McQueen to impressive detail considering that the entire thing is comprised of only 270 individual pieces. The model captures McQueen’s trademark smirk, his livery package, and even the “Lightyear” branded tires!

As you might imagine, I started throwing my wallet at the screen as soon as I saw this set, despite my efforts I was unable to purchase it. That’s because the set doesn’t release until January 1st, 2026. While the wait might be a little frustrating for people like me who needed this set yesterday, there’s a good reason for it. 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of Pixar’s Cars. Yes, you read correctly. The first Cars film will be 20 years old next year. It makes your joints hurt just thinking about that, doesn’t it?

Impending senility aside, I’m looking forward to what else Pixar has in store for Cars 20th anniversary. Furthermore, hopefully this means more Cars characters will get the Speed Champions treatment. For instance Tow Mater and Sally Porsche would make pretty awesome sets! Just sayin’ Heck while we’re at it, let’s just have the entirety of Radiator Springs re-created in Lego! Who do I need to talk to at Pixar and Lego to make that happen?
