HRC Wants to Sell You Vintage Racecars via New Heritage Racing Program

Ever want to own the very same race cars you watched win on Sundays when you were growing up? Well, now you have your chance if you’re a Honda and/or Acura fan. At Monterey Car Week, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) revealed its new Heritage Racing Program. In a nutshell, the program facilitates the sale and restoration of historic Honda and Acura racers that have won races and championships across different classes around the world.

The first car up for sale through the program is the #2 XM Satellite Radio AGR Acura ARX-01a. The V8-powered LMP2 car won its class at the 2007 Sebring 12 Hours with Dario Franchitti, Bryan Herta, and Tony Kanaan sharing driving duties. That was the car’s maiden race, and Franchitti drove the car to multiple future victories.

“The 2007 XM Acura ARX-01a made you feel like a hero; it made you feel like the best driver in the world. You just pushed harder and harder, and it just kept coming back for more,” said Franchitti in the announcement. “It’s just a pleasure to drive; the 2007 XM Acura ARX-01a is a special car for anyone who was lucky enough to get to drive it, and you can’t say that for a lot of cars.”

By the way, we should make it clear that when the Heritage Racing Program sells these cars, they sell them in drivable condition. Not stripped of everything and meant strictly for display.

Each race car sold is completely torn down and reassembled with new and reconditioned parts and updated parts when it comes to safety equipment. Electronics are updated as well, and engines are rebuilt at HRC US headquarters in Santa Clarita, California. Post-restoration, each race car is track tested, and HRC engineers are made available for track support and to assist the new owner in competition. So, don’t be surprised if you start to see some vintage Honda and Acura metal showing up at historic races in the near future.

Other Heritage Program cars on display include the 2010 ARX-01c “Strakka Racing” Le Mans LMP2 class winner, and the Acura NSX GT3 Chassis No. 5. The latter is also currently for sale and is the winningest NSX GT3 chassis in HRC history.

So, how much does it cost to buy a 100% authentic vintage race-winning car? HRC didn’t disclose a price, but remember that Monterey Car Week is probably one of the biggest collections of millionaires and billionaires in one place all year. It’s no accident that HRC chose the event to reveal the program.
