The Afeela EV Let’s Passengers Play PS5 Games And Watch Anime

It’s been a few years since Sony and Honda first revealed the Afeela EV, a joint project between the two Japanese companies to produce a car that combines Honda’s mobility with Sony’s technology and entertainment. At first it was more of a mysterious concept than an upcoming vehicle, but as of CES 2025 that’s all changed. Honda and Sony held a joint conference at the event to officially announce that not only is the Afeela going to production, but pre-orders are now open–if you live in California.

Offcially known as the Afeela 1, the EV will come in two trims: Origin and Signature. The Origin trim will set you back $89,900 and the Signature trim costs $109,900. Though $200 now will secure your pre-order and once your Afeela 1 is ready you can pick it up at one of two “Afeela Studio and Delivery Hubs.” One will be in Torrance, CA not far from the Honda North America HQ, and the other will be in Freemont, CA.

Both trims of the Afeela 1 will come with complimentary 3-year subscriptions to the Afeela Intelligent Drive service. The service includes SHM’s ADAS Level 2 autonomous system, Afeela personal agent, customizable themes, and the Immersive Entertainment selection.

Both models are also equipped with the “media bar” screen for the front passengers, a 3D map system, spacial sound system, and 5G connectivity. What sets the Signature trim apart from the Orgin is that the Signature comes with 21-inch wheels, a rear entertainment system, and a center camera monitoring system with home link. The Origin trim comes standard with 19-inch wheels.

Apart from that, SHM hasn’t released any of the Afeela 1’s technical specs. We don’t know how much horsepower it will have, how many electric motors, the battery pack size, or even an estimated range. SHM will likely reveal those figures closer to the very vague release dates of “mid-2026” for the Signature trim and “around 2027” for the Origin trim.

In the meantime SHM was more than happy to show what the Afeela 1 is capable of. Though what caught our eye the most was its entertainment features. SHM announced partnerships with several media companies including its anime streaming service Crunchyroll. We  also know that the Afeela 1 is capable of running PlayStation 5 (PS5) games via streaming. SHM demonstrated this ability previously at a closed doors media event and it hinted at the functionality during the CES presentation with a quick glimpse of PlayStation 5 game Astro Bot running on Afeela 1 screens.

Though for some reason the PS5 functionality wasn’t mentioned verbally during the presentation. We have a feeling that perhaps SHM may be making a short appearance during a PlayStation livestream event later this year in which they’ll reveal more.
