Official Indy Car Game Coming In 2023

After years of hoping, an official Indy Car game was announced this morning by Motorsport Games.

Motorsport Games is the studio behind massive online racing games like the NASCAR Heat series and rFactor 2. Today, they announced that they have entered an agreement with Indy Car to create the first official Indy Car video game since 2005.

“Motorsport Games and INDYCAR are thrilled to provide fans with a long overdue dedicated gaming experience,” said Dmitry Kozko, CEO of Motorsport Games. “After decades of world class racing, we cannot think of a more deserving league for a video game franchise. INDYCAR shares our commitment to bringing authentic experiences to motor racing enthusiasts. Fans can anticipate the NTT INDYCAR SERIES to meet the same level of excellence and immersive gameplay they expect from Motorsport Games.”

Racing fans have wanted an official Indy Car game in the same vein as Codemasters F1 games but a dedicated title has yet to be developed. Instead, Indy Cars have been featured in other popular racing games like Forza Motorsport and hardcore racing sim games like rFactor and iRacing.

Now it seems that fans will finally get what they’ve wanted. Though, they will have to wait a bit longer. Today’s announcement was just confirmation of the agreement between Motorsport Games and Indy Car. There is still a lot more to do; like actually make the game.

For now, Motorsport Games has stated that they expect their Indy Car game to release some time in 2023. This is pure speculation on our part but if Motorsport Games wants to get their Indy Car game out before the start of the 2023 season, we would estimate a release date sometime in March of that year.

Assuming we’re right (we’re probably not) that provides about a year and a half for development and release.

In addition to development Motorsport Games will also have the license to create an official Indy Car eSports racing series which is set to kick off this year.

The likely scenario is that Indy Car eSports will be run in rFactor 2 until the official game is ready in 2023.

It was also confirmed that the Indy Car game will be available on PlayStation and Xbox consoles as well as PC.
