Last month the world got (very) short look at what the next Forza Motorsport game would look like on the Xbox Series X. During the reveal it was stated that Forza Motorsport would be coming to Xbox Series X, Windows 10 PC, and Xbox’s GamePass service. There was no mention of Xbox one.
Based on that, I speculated that the console version of this new Forza game would be exclusive to the Series X. Later on I second guessed that notion as on the Series X website, it mentioned that the new Forza Motorsport game would have “Smart Delivery”.
As a quick primer, “Smart Delivery” is Xbox’s service that allows games that run on Xbox One to be automatically upgraded to run on the Xbox Series X when a player gets that console. For example, I play Forza Horizon 4 on my Xbox One X but if I get a Xbox Series X console my copy of Forza Horizon 4 will automatically update to a Series X optimized version of the game with improved visuals and frame rates.
So, if a game is advertised as having Smart Delivery it is generally an indicator that there will be a version of it meant for Xbox One.
Yet, this morning, a user posted on the r/SeriesXbox reddit by user “TroLsauros” that the Series X page has been updated and that it no longer lists “Smart Delivery” under Forza Motorsport. This seems to confirm that the console version of the new Forza game will be exclusive to Xbox Series X.
This would also mean that anyone using the Xbox One but still want’s to play the new Forza Motorsport will have to play it on Game Pass via the xCloud game streaming service.
Whether this is a good thing or bad thing depends on the situation I suppose. If someone doesn’t seem themselves being able to afford the Series X console or a gaming PC, then they will have to rely on the Game Pass service and xCloud streaming. That definitely isn’t horrible by any stretch but it won’t be the optimal experience.
On the other hand there are many people who would prefer that the game targets the new console so that it doesn’t have to make any compromises in graphic fidelity or features.
I’m a console guy myself so it looks like I will definitely need to pick up a Xbox Series X console before the new Forza Motorsport game shows up. Hopefully Microsoft will announce the price soon so I know how many pennies I need to save!
What do you think about the next Forza Motorsport being an Xbox Series X console exclusive? Are you happy about it or do you feel like you’re being left behind? Would you prefer playing it via xCloud so you don’t have to buy a new console? Let me know in the comments or send a tweet at @MotorworldHype.
