Forza Motorsport For Xbox Series X Is A Reimagining Of The Franchise (VIDEO)

The next Forza Motorsport has been officially revealed! Notice I said “next” Forza Motorsport and not “Forza Motorsport 8″…

It’s a touch early here on the west coast but it was worth getting up for one of the most anticipated days for gamers all year: the Xbox Games Showcase. This hour long streamed event was all about showing the world all of the first party titles that are coming to Xbox consoles, including the Xbox Series X.

Naturally, with the Forza Motorsport series being one of the biggest first party franchises for Xbox, many expected a reveal of the next installment. Yet, it was never really confirmed or even teased by anyone at Xbox or Turn 10 Studios. So, while a reveal was highly likely, it was far from certain.

Now that we don’t have to guess anymore, let’s take a deep dive into everything we know about the next Forza Motorsport game so far.

It’s not called “Forza Motorsport 8”

As you might have noticed from the trailer, there was no “8” at the end of the title. It looks like this game might just be a re-boot of the entire series. In fact, in a blog post Turn 10 Studios Creative Director Dan Greenawalt said that this game is a “reimagining of the series”.

Last year Dan and the Turn 10 Studios team said they would be taking a completely new and different approach to the way they develop Forza games. Could this mean they are starting things over from scratch? Maybe.

It won’t be an Xbox Series X launch game

Just like the Gran Turismo 7 trailer from a short while ago, the Forza Motorsport trailer did not feature a release date or even a release window. Furthermore in that blog post I mentioned previously, Dan said that this next Forza game is still in “early development”. This is probably why there was no gameplay in the trailer.

Considering what was shown is based on “early development” I would guess that this new Forza game will not be released until 2021 at the earliest. Which is a bit of a bummer but, I would rather they take their time to make sure this game is built to their standard than rush it just to make the Series X launch.

It will have ray-tracing and run at 4K 60fps.

The next Forza Motorsport game is confirmed to utilize ray-tracing, a high end light rendering technique that makes surfaces and environments look much more true-to-life as it emulates the way light actually bounces and reflects off materials.

It is also confirmed to run at 4K 60fps but Forza Motorsport 7 can already do that on the Xbox One X so I would speculate that that there will be other graphic and frame rate options available. My guess would be that there will be an 1080p 60fps option and possibly an 8K 30fps option but that is more of a long shot.

It might be exclusive to Xbox Series X

It was stated that the next Forza Motorsport game will be available for “Xbox Series X, Windows 10 PC, and Xbox Game Pass”, no mention was given to Xbox One. With everything that this game is promising, there is a good chance that they would rather stick with the platform that can keep those promises.

This could mean that all the Forza players who prefer consoles will definitely have to upgrade to the Xbox Series X. Which is likely another reason why this will not be a launch title.

The head of Xbox Phil Spencer has mentioned several times that it will be “a few years” before we start to see games that are “exclusive” to the Series X console so they don’t leave gamers behind off the jump.

There was some Forza Horizon 4 news

It was announced that Forza Horizon 4 would be getting a “smart delivery” Xbox Series X upgrade for free. Currently players using the Xbox One X to play Forza Horizon 4 have to choose between having 4K resolution at 30fps or bumping down to 1080p resolution at 60fps.

The upgraded Xbox Series X version will no longer require players to have to make that choice as it will be able to maintain 60fps while keeping the resolution at 4K.

That’s about it…

Yeah, we didn’t really get much information today which is kind of a bummer but not totally unexpected. I wish a slice of gameplay was shown but it looks like we will have to wait. I am still glad that we got to see a glimpse of the next Forza Motorsport. Here’s hoping we get to see more soon.

There are rumors of another Xbox event taking place next month, but that might be more focused on hardware rather than games. I guess we’ll see! If any further details are revealed I’ll post it here ASAP!
