F1 Edition Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Revelaed Ahead of Miami GP

In the latest bit of F1 cross-branding, Cadillac has revealed the CT5-V Blackwing F1 Collector Series, a super rare edition of its top shelf CT5-V Blackwing performance sedan. But are the interesting bits of this brand collab offering just skin-deep?

More Than a Logo Job

I hear you cynics because I am one of you. More often than not, cross-branded limited-edition versions of performance vehicles are nothing more than some exclusive paint options, unique badging, and some exclusive interior stitching with more badges. I expected the same here, so I was shocked to learn that the CT5-V Blackwing F1 Collector Series actually has increased performance!

However, don’t get too excited. The performance increases are modest. Where a regular CT5-V Blackwing makes 668 horsepower and 659 lb ft of torque from its 6.2-liter supercharged V8, the F1 Collector Series makes 685 horsepower and 673 lb ft of torque. Cadillac says the power increase comes from an upgraded supercharger unit. I suspect GM Performance added a new pulley to the supercharger to extract additional power. I’ve reached out to Cadillac for clarification, so if I hear back, I’ll update this story accordingly.

In addition to the upgraded supercharger, every CT5-V Blackwing F1 Collector series comes exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission and Cadillac’s Precision Package, which includes carbon-ceramic brakes, an upgraded suspension, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

There’s Still a Bunch of Logos Though

While an actual performance bump is much appreciated, there was no way this trim wouldn’t actually be adorned from head to toe with logos. Before I get to that, I have to give Cadillac props for the sharp aesthetic upgrades on deck here. The exterior loosely emulates the Cadillac F1 car’s color scheme with Midnight Stone Frost paint, Carbon Flash Metallic wheels, and a carbon fiber aero package with a Switchblade Silver pinstripe. It’s a subtle package overall, but nicely done.

Now, we get into the branding. You will find F1 and/or FIA branding in no less than nine places on this vehicle including a stamped F1 logo on the driver door, F1 and FIA logos on the spoiler, FIA logo on the rocker panels, CNC machined F1 logo on the supercharger cover, laser-etched FIA logo on the supercharger cover, F1 logos on the seat headrests, F1 logo on a 3D-printed shifter medalion, F1 and FIA logos on the builder’s badge, and finally a Cadillac F1 logo on the door sills.

There’s likely more, but I think you all get the point by now. Cadillac really wanted everyone to know that this is an F1 co-branded car. So, maybe steer clear of this one if you are not an F1 fan. If you do happen to be a fan, then this is one heck of a collector’s piece. That’s especially true when you consider that Cadillac is only producing 26 units of the CT5-V Blackwing F1 Collector Series.

With only 26 cars available, you’d better dash to the biggest Cadillac dealer you can find to see if they’re getting an allocation. If so, get ready to choke down an obscene ADM. If that’s cool with you, then I wish you luck because this may be one of the most difficult cars to get all year.
