After decades away, the 2022 Acura Integra has finally returned in grand fashion. After months of speculation and teaser images, we know a little bit more about the return of an iconic Japanese sport compact car.

What kind of engine will the 2022 Acura Integra have?

The 2022 Acura Integra will come equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged VTEC engine. However, horsepower figures were not officially announced at the time of the reveal. Acura has already confirmed that a six-speed transmission will be available on the new Integra but it was revealed that a limited-slip differential will be standard.

As in previous models, the new Acura Integra will be front-wheel-drive. No other drivetrain options (such as AWD) were mentioned. We also do not know how much horsepower the new Integra will have, only that its 1.5-liter engine will be “high output.”

How much will the 2022 Acura Integra cost?

The new Integra will cost “around” $30,000 according to Acura VP and Brand officer Jon Ikeda. Ikeda also confirmed that the new Integra will arrive in dealerships in 2022 as a 2023 model.

It appears that Acura is targeting the Toyota GR 86 and Subaru BRZ with the $30k price point. It appears that the new Integra wants a piece of the accessible sports car market.

“The Integra is one of the most iconic models in Acura’s history,” said Jon Ikeda “This new Integra, will continue to deliver on the original’s unique aspirational yet attainable market position, with emotional performance and style, combined with the versatility and utility sought after by today’s buyers.”

Will there be a new Integra Type R?

Jon Ikeda neither confirmed nor denied if a Type R variant of the new Integra was coming. Though, we think it would be a huge missed opportunity not to. The only time the phrase “Type R” was mentioned during the presentation was when Ikeda noted that the “Indy Yellow Pearl” paint is an homage to the “Phoenix Yellow” hue found on the 2000-2001 Type R.
