Global Time Attack Coming To Long Beach

The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach is near and dear to us at MotorworldHype since the race is basically in our back yard. It is one of the most exciting weekends of the year for us so you can imagine how bummed we were when the Grand Prix was cancelled last year.

We were happy to learn that the Grand Prix would return in 2021 though, delayed to September along with Formula Drift. Not ideal but better late than never.

The Global Time Attack series is coming to the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach in 2021.

Yesterday we received even more news as it was confirmed that the Global Time Attack (GTA) series will officially be part of the race weekend festivities.

The GTA series started back in 2011 and it is all about providing a stage for builders and shops to put their race cars against each other for stopwatch supremacy. There are five categories, but our favorite would have to be the unlimited class.

The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend plays host to several motorsport series and events like the Super Drift invitational Challenge, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Stadium Super Trucks, and the Historic Formula Atlantic challenge.

In years past, there was a celebrity race as well but since Acura took over as the title sponsor, that race has yet to return but bringing Global Time Attack is a welcomed addition in the meantime.

The GTA event will take place over all three days of the race weekend with cars being sent out on the 11-turn 1.97 mile street course 5 to 10 seconds apart. Only a team’s fastest lap over the entire race weekend.

It should be a fun event and we’re looking forward to covering it. The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach is currently set to run September 24th-26th, 2021.
