2020 Holiday Gift Guide For Car Lovers To Enjoy At Home

We are in the full swing of the 2020 holiday season and if you have a gearhead in your life, it might be a little tricky to find a gift for them. Or maybe you are the gearhead and you want to drop some hints. Either way this guide is for you!

Now, obviously things are a bit different right now because of the pandemic. It looks like things are going to start to roll back to “normal” soon but just incase we have to stay in a bit longer than expected, each gift in this guide is something that can be enjoyed at home!

The list isn’t in any particular order and vary in price but it is all stuff we think people who love cars would enjoy. If any of the items are currently on sale, we’ll make a note of it so you can safe a bit of cash. Let’s get started!

MotorTrend On Demand Streaming Subscription

MotorTrend On Demand streaming service

Price: 4.99 per month

Sale: Holiday package special 23.99 for 1 year subscription

Link: Stream Automotive Shows and Live Races | Motor Trend (motortrendondemand.com)

If we’re all going to be staying in for a while then it’s probably a good idea to have plenty of stuff to watch on TV. For the car enthusiast in particular, a subscription to MotorTrend OnDemand streaming service can come in clutch. MotorTrend OnDemand has tons of original content but lots of syndicated stuff as well; including nearly 200 episodes of TopGear and even episodes of the original animated Speed Racer cartoon.

Right now there is a holiday special being offered. For 23.99 you get 1 year access to the streaming service, but it also comes with a 1 year subscription to digital editions of both MotorTrend and Hot Rod magazines. It also comes with a one-time 25% discount on MotorTrend merch. This is a pretty good deal as normally a year of the streaming service alone is about $50.

Yep, it is early in this guide and we’re already plugging our own stuff. We have no shame! Our newest shirt is a play on the popular “get in loser” meme, but our shirt features custom commissioned Japanese manga-style art work with two iconic cars getting sideways. We’re really proud of how this shirt came out and we think gearheads and drifting fans will appreciate it!

Logitech G923 Steering Wheel

Logitech G923 steering wheel peripheral. Xbox version

Price: $399.99

Sale: $349.99

Chances are anyone who loves cars also loves racing and driving games. Nothing quite enhances the driving game experience like using a steering wheel peripheral when playing. This year Logitech released the latest version of their wheel, the G923. It is a great mid-range wheel that offers force feedback and their new “trueforce” tech that can adjust the feedback profile on the fly (works in select titles). The G923 works on PC and there is a version for PlayStation and Xbox. The console wheels can work on the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles and the previous Xbox One and PS4 consoles as well.

This wheel is normally $399.99 but retailers like Best Buy are selling it for about 50 bucks off right now at the link above.

Playseat Challenge Simulator Rig

Price: $249

If you pick up that Logitech G923 wheel, it might be a good idea to get a simulator rig seat to attach it to. The Playseat Challenge rig allows for many different types of wheel peripherals to be attached and gives the user a comfortable but realistic driving seat position. The great thing about this particular rig is that it folds up to be nearly flat so it is great in situations where space is a premium. Its $249 price makes it a relative bargain as well.

Linear Edge Track Sculpture

Linear Edge Long Beach Grand Prix track sculpture

Price: $99 ($199 for larger tracks)

Link: Long Beach Grand Prix | Track Sculptures (linearedge.com)

Gearheads appreciate art. In fact that’s part of the reason why many of us love cars, because they are pieces of art. Though, automotive art goes beyond vehicles. Linear Edge creates sculptures of popular race track layouts that look amazing when mounted on a wall. They have tons of tracks available like Laguna Seca, the Long Beach Grand Prix circuit, and even the Top Gear test track. They look great in an office, rec room, or living room if the significant other gives the green light! Most of the track sculptures are only $99 but some of the larger ones such as the Nurburgring are $199.

Porsche Design 911 Bluetooth Speaker

Admittedly this is a pretty pricey gift but the enthusiast in your life is bound to love it, especially if they are a Porsche fan. This Bluetooth speaker is made from a genuine Porsche 911 exhaust pipe in an aluminum housing. The speaker has 60 watts of power and can generate 95 dB SPL maximum sound pressure. It’s internal battery allows it to provide up to 24 hours of playback before needing to plug it in. It connects via Bluetooth 4.0 and has a range of 10 meters (about 32 feet).

MotorworldHype SHIFT or DIE Cloth Facemask

Yep, we’re plugging our merch again! Our “SHIFT or DIE” shirt features the shift pattern skull design that is also seen on the SHIFT or DIE Shirt. LEGO Technic Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 set

LEGO Technic Lamborghini Sian set

LEGOs aren’t just for kids and lately the Swedish plastic brick maker has been releasing some absolutely amazing automotive kits! The Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 Technic kit is the latest “big” kit meant for the older crowd. The kit has over 3,600 pieces and tons of cool details like a functioning 8-speed transmission. Like the Bluetooth speaker, this LEGO kit isn’t cheap at $379 but it can provide hours of fun putting it together and makes a great display piece when its finished.

HPI Racing Dai Yoshihara R/C Drift Car

HPI Racing Dai Yoshihara R/C Drift Car

Price: $319.00

Sale: $269.99

Link: HPI Racing RS4 Sport 3 Drift RTR Dai Yoshihara Subaru BRZ, “120096” (rchobbyexplosion.com)

Due to the pandemic, I wasn’t able to go to a single Formula Drift event this year. Needless to say that was a huge bummer. Though, if we had our own mini replica of Dai Yoshihara’s drift car that we could slide around the house, I think it would have cheered us up. This R/C car from HPI Racing is pretty high end and even has metal gears for the differential and adjustable suspension. In fact it comes as a kit that includes almost everything you need to get started. The car just needs to be paired with a remote (sold separately) and it’s ready to go. Normally, this set comes in at about $320 but you can find it for $49 off at the link above.

DIRT 5 is the first major racing game built for the new PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles. Though it is also available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. DIRT 5 is easily the most accessible and fun DIRT game that Codemasters has produced so far. It has tons of different cars and different events like ice racing and Gymkhana. Though, it’s crown jewel is the Playground Mode that allows players to create their own Gymkhana, stunt, and race courses using crazy obstacles and then share them online. If you want to know all the reasons why we like DIRT 5 you can check out our review; but the gist is that DIRT 5 is definitely worth picking up!
