The 2020 Nissan GT-R NISMO is the very embodiment of a “unicorn halo” car. It’s super rare, super powerful, and super expensive. It’s the kind of car that stories will be told about long after its production has finished because even years later new bits of information will still be uncovered.
Though, sometimes those neat tidbits are provided by the manufacturer. In this case Nissan has just released a new video all about the turbochargers in the 2020 Nissan GT-R NISMO.
It turns out that the turbos in the GT-R NISMO are the same units used in the Nissan GT-R GT3 race car. Let that sink in for a moment; this street car has the same turbos as a full on GT3 race car!
There are a few slight differences however. The turbos in the GT-R NISMO have actually been modified slightly.
While the turbos from the GT3 racecar have 11 turbine blades, the turbos in the GT-R NISMO have 10. Additionally the width of the blades have been shaved down ever so slightly.
What’s the purpose of these modifications? Well according to Nissan, those mods actually increase the boost response and improved acceleration in the mid-rpm range.
Pretty significant gains for what are seemingly minor modifications.
If you want to watch the GT-R NISMO crew talk about it for themselves, just watch the video below.
