LA Auto Show: Acura’s NSX GT3 Race Car Was The Centerpiece Of Its Exhibit

Acura didn’t have any major reveals or debuts planned at the LA Auto Show, though they decided to do something that I personally think is way better…

They brought one of their brand new NSX GT3 race cars, sans a livery or wrap.  Yes, it was a pure, naked carbon fiber NSX race car parked smack dab in the middle of their exhibit.

There were no signs, no iPads with marketing speak about how their race car technology trickles down into their road cars.  None of that.  Just an angry race car, speaking for itself.

More OEMs need to do this at major auto shows!  No production car to reveal?  Bring a race car!  Its such a simple yet awesome idea!

When it comes to this particular race car I don’t know all the specifics when it comes to its numbers but it still shares much of its specs with the road version.

It has the same 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6 engine, though obviously without the electric motors aiding it (or holding it back).  It also has a six-speed sequential transmission and rather than being all wheel drive, all of the power goes to the rear wheels.

When I look at this thing I can’t help but wish the production car was more like its race car variant: more aggressive aero styling, no electric motors, rear wheel drive.

Oh well, maybe next time.  Though for those who really like the way the GT3 car is set up, it is technically for sale.  This isn’t just a one-off factory racer.

About $500 grand will net you one of these track weapons to use all you want.  Unfortunately, that’s a little out of my price range…
