Formula Drift Releases 2018 Championship Schedule
Today Formula Drift made it official: Irwindale Speedway is not on the 2018 Championship schedule. It’s definitely sad to see but thus is reality.
The final event at “The House Of Drift” was the season finale in October at which James Deane become the 2018 Formula Drift Champion.
So the question is: with Irwindale off the schedule, what venue replaces it? Also, are there any other new locations added to the roster?
Both of those questions have seemingly concrete answers as shown in the schedule below.
To answer the big question, it looks like Las Vegas Motorspeedway will replace Irwindale as the season finale venue in October, 2018. It looks to take place about two weeks before SEMA which is definitely going to be a grind for teams looking to make their 2019 announcements at the show.
It also looks like Irwindale isn’t the only track being replaced in 2018. According to the schedule, Montreal has been replaced with Gateway Motorsports Park in St. Louis, MO.
This is definitely a bummer for drift fans in the “great white north” but great news for mid-west fans who haven’t seen a Formula Drift event in their area since the Chicago round in 2006.
Apart from those two changes, the schedule is pretty much the same as it was this year.
What do you think about the venue changes for 2018? Do you think Las Vegas is a good replacement for Irwindale Speedway? How do you feel about Formula Drift returning to the mid-west?
