We got a little behind the 8 ball as we are prepping for E3 2013 but we are happy to finally bring you our photo gallery from WekFest LA 2014 last weekend! We took a ton of pictures and most of them are actually good enough to show you! How about that?!
“Well, how was the show?” you might be asking. To be totally honest, this year’s WekFest is probably the best one I have been to so far. At first I was a little worried because there were considerably less cars than I was used to seeing at the Queen Mary Events park but after a short stroll it was easy to see that the organizers went for quality over quantity. I am going to let you guys in on a little secret. When we cover car shows like this we do not photograph every single car at the show… *GASP!* I know, shocking right? Well here is why: even at some of the best shows there still seems to be quite a few cars that just do not seem like they belong there. In other words sometimes we will come across a car that is pretty much stock. It might have a few basic mods like wheels and lowering springs which is cool and looks clean sometimes but it is not particularly interesting. So, when we come across a car like that we will skip it and shoot something that is a little visually interesting. There are obviously exceptions but for the most part that is our general rule of thumb.
However, at WekFest LA 2014 this almost never happened. While the car count might have seemed low, most of the cars there were top notch! Were there some cars that we skipped? Yes but it was not many. Also some cars were skipped not because they weren’t interesting but there was just too much of a crowd around it to get a clean shot! The cars were that good, as you’ll see in the gallery.
Is WekFest perfect? No. There are always things that can be done to make an event better but I can’t really think of anything significant that bothered me enough to mention except for one thing: the name of the event “WekFest LA”. Despite its name WekFest LA is held in the city of Long Beach, not Los Angeles. In fact, WekFest LA is held just a short walk away from Long Beach’s most famous and iconic landmark: the Queen Mary. You can’t get more “Long Beach” than that! Also, Long Beach has a pretty rich automotive enthusiast history as well as motorsport history with events like the Toyota Grand Prix and Formula Drift. So, I am not really sure why the WekFest organizers continue to call the event “WekFest LA”. As you know, MotorworldHype is based in Long Beach so we think it would be cool if WekFest repped our city instead of LA.
Will changing the name to “WekFest Long Beach” or “WekFest LB” physically make the show better? No. But I think it would be a nice nod to the locals who come out to attend the show! Either way, the show itself was awesome as you soon see in the gallery. If you have not attended before I would highly recommend coming out next year! If 2014 was any indication, 2015’s WekFest will be pretty damn epic. We also want to give a big thanks to the WekFest crew for inviting us out. Now scroll down to check out our massive gallery!
