Weds Sport Carbon Fiber Wheel

Posted on 08.29.08 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

Leave it to a Japanese company to do a world’s first when it comes to wheels.  In the picture above is one wheel from the world’s only set of all carbon-fiber wheel for a car.  There are mag barrels with carbon centers and the like but this wheel from Weds Sport is full construction carbon.

How much does it weigh? Try 6.1lbs per wheel!  It also looks like they didn’t have to make any sacrifices for design as this looks to be a clone of the Weds Sport TS-TITAN.  Despite its glossy look the wheel was made using a dry carbon construction technique for extra strength.

According to Carbon Fiber Gear it seems that Weds won’t actually mass produce these wheels.  However if you happen to have $12 grand burning a hole in your pocket they just might do you a favor.

NISMO Club Sport Package for GT-R

Posted on 08.29.08 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

In all the GT-R hype some of us may have forgotten that NISMO had not got their hands on the Japanese super car yet, until now.   NISMO Japan has just released a ”Club Sport” package for the GT-R which seems to exude track day testosterone.

The package starts off with Bilstein damptronic adjustible shocks with way stiff Nismo springs and a set of Rays produced forged aluminum 20 inch wheels wrapped in Bridgestone RE070R tires.

Next up on the list are NISMOxRecaro collab seats with carbon fiber backing.  These seats keep the side air bag system in tact but delete the electric seat position motors which saves a bit of weight.

The suspension, wheels, and seats are all super cool but I’d say the crown jewels of the package are the full titanium exhaust with a carbon fiber undertray!  FRESH!

By now I’m sure you’re pretty excited right?  Well, unfortunately its time for a buzz-kill.  All the aformentioned NISMO goodies are meant only for the Japanese Domestic Market.  In fact even if you live in Japan there are only 12 places in the entire country authorized to perform the install and maintainence on these products without voiding the warranty.

There is a slight consolation that GT-R product specialist GT-RR.com will be importing the full sport package but it’s going to set you back $58,000!  That’s more than half of what most current owners paid for their GT-R!  Is it worth it? I’m going to go out on a limb and say no.  But that doesn’t take away from how cool this all is and despite the outlandish price I’m pretty sure there are several GT-R owners in the US whom already have the NISMO package on reserve.

I mean, these are the same people willing to spend $20k even $50k over sticker just to get the car.  What’s another $60 grand for a suspension, wheels, tires, seats, and an exhaust?

Grease Monkey Honda Civic Si Baseball Cap

Posted on 08.28.08 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

This is probably my hands down favorite item in the entire Grease Monkey fashion line.  I’m not really a hat person but their Civic Si cap is one of the coolest I’ve ever seen.  I don’t even have a Civic but I’d still wear this.

F1 Lozenge Carbon Fiber Keyring

Posted on 08.28.08 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

Formula One racing is cool.  Carbon Fiber is cool.  Keys are…well they’re not so cool by themselves.  But if you combine the three you get something super cool like this F1 “Lozenge” Keyring.  It’s made from solid Carbon Fiber and constructed by one the same carbon fiber smithes that many F1 Teams use.

J’Adore Dori Tee

Posted on 08.28.08 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

The cool thing about Pacific Rim is that they have a knack of finding ways to mix high fashion with modern automotive culture without being lame.  I’m loving this “J’Adore Dori” shirt.  I want to wear this to the final round of Formula D and be the most classy drift fanboy in the venue.

More Than Meets The Eye: Spy video from Transformers 2 set

Posted on 08.28.08 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

I was checking out Autoblog and they directed me over to a Transformers Movie live blog where one of their ninjas was able to nab some secret video footage from the set.  You can clearly see that all the Transformers are back and joined by a few new bots.  Leading the pack is GM’s Corvette Centennial concept and mid-pack you’ll see a blue car that is believed to be the production version of the Chevy Volt.

So far no one knows what parts the Centennial concept or the the Chevy Volt will play in the flick but it’s awesome that GM is putting it all out there.

Check out the vid

Tanner Foust drives Lamborghini Reventon

Posted on 08.28.08 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

Some people just have awesome jobs.  Take Tanner Foust for instance.  When he’s not competing in Formula D, racing in Rally America, or stunt driving awesome cars on Hollywood movie sets hes hosting a show called Supercars Exposed which is a 30 minute program on SPEED where crazy rich people toss him the keys to their expensive cars.

If that weren’t enough, producers from Supercars Exposed just flew Tanner over to Milan where he got to visit the Lamborghini factory and drive the 1.4 million dollar Lamborghini Reventon!

He even wrote a driving impression and everything!

Did I forget to mention that this dude also gets to be one of the hosts of the American version of Top Gear?!

This man needs to author a self-help book on how to consecutively land amazing car jobs.

The Tale of the Green Seatbelt

Posted on 08.28.08 | RJ de Vera No Comments

If you are a JDM fan you know exactly what a Takata Harness is. It’s the racing harness that is so green yet so fresh. You may know of their Super GT (JGTC) GT 500 NSX but most of all you know the distinct color and style of the safety belts. If you’ve ever wondered where to get those green seatbelts go to Takata Racing to find out more.

Voltex Cyber Street Front Bumper

Posted on 08.28.08 | RJ de Vera No Comments

We just found out that our good friends at Evasive are distributing Voltex aero components. Voltex makes some of the most aggressive aero enhancements and wings we’ve ever seen and most are used by a number of Time Attack kings. Many of the kits are offered in street and full track versions. They are simply crazy and just awesome to look at. Check out the Cyber front bumper (street edition) for the Lancer Evo VIII/IX. Doesn’t it look wicked? I’d also rock the widebody arches and rear bumper diffuser and of course don’t forget those front canards!

Find out more at Evasive Motorsport.

New King of the Ring?

Posted on 08.28.08 | RJ de Vera No Comments

The Automotive Blogs have been busily buzzing on who the new king of the ring is. The Nissan GTR was crowned king in May of this year when it’s own everymans supercar lapped it in 7.29. A month later GM came up to bat and dethroned the GTR with their more exclusive Corvette ZR1 bringing the record down to 7.26. Not wanting to be outdone Dodge decided to send not 1 but 2 of it’s newest supercar the Viper ACR to Germany and rent the Ring out for a day to see what they could muster. Driven by WTCC driver Tom Coronel, who is an experienced 24hour Nurburgring racer, the Viper ACR unofficially brought the record down to 7.22.
