VIDEO: Corvette ZR1X is Faster Than Rimac, Bugatti, and Koenigsegg

The new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X is officially one of the fastest cars you can buy—for under a million dollars. General Motors has just reported back from US 131 Motorsports Park after a full day of testing with its new super sports car and the results are eye-opening.

According to GM, the ZR1X clicked off a quarter mile in 8.675 seconds at 151 mph on pump gas, standard equipment tires, and a production 50-state legal engine tune. Even more impressive is during that same run, the ZR1X achieved a 0-60 mph time of 1.68 seconds. It should be noted that the quarter mile run was on a prepped surface, but a 1.68 second 0-60 time in a factory stock vehicle is still incredible.

For reference, the only current production car that can pull off a faster 0-60 mph time is the Rimac Nevera R at 1.66 seconds. However, the Nevera R has almost 860 more horsepower than the ZR1X and costs $2.5 million. Considering the Corvette ZR1X’s starting MSRP of $209,700, it’s a relative bargain.

Think about it for a second. If GM’s claims are true that means this is a car someone can buy from a sales lot and with no external modifications, go to a prepped drag strip, and be within spitting distance of a hypercar that costs literally 12 times more.

The test vehicle was equipped with the standard ZR1X aero, Michelin PS4S tires, and optional carbon fiber wheels. Corvette engineer and test driver Stefan Frick used the ZR1X’s Custom Launch Control feature to dial-in launch RPM and wheel slip targets to manage the run.

GM claims that on an unprepped surface the ZR1X—when equipped with the optional ZTK Performance Package—can hit 0-60 mph in 1.89 seconds. By the way, that’s still faster than the $3.4 million Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut and the $4.6 million Bugatti Tourbillon.

There’s no doubt that GM is throwing the gauntlet down, but who will respond? Drag strips across the world are now trembling in anticipation.
