Yohji Yamamoto Lamborghini Aventador S

Remember a while back when Yohji Yamamoto teased a collaboration with Lamborghini? Well today we know what it was all about.

Back in January 2020, Lamborghini Head of Design Mitja Borkert met with Yamamoto at Paris Fashion Week and apparently they had a pretty great conversation.

Ultimately that conversation led to a collaboration that would see a brand new location called “THE LOUNGE TOKYO” opening in Tokyo, Japan. Yamamoto also custom designed a Lamborghini Aventador S.

The only other physical location similar to this one is in New York, USA.

This lounge will serve as a retail shop for Yohji Yamamoto’s new Lamborghini capsule collection but it will also serve as a Lamborghini Ad Personam center.

Lamborghini Ad Personam is a program that allows buyers to personalize an Aventador or Huracan by choosing custom colorways for the exterior, interior, and other elements.

Essentially it is a really exclusive way for a customer to make sure their brand new $200,000+ supercar doesn’t look exactly like their neighbors car.

THE LOUNGE will also serve as, well, a lounge. The Lamborghini Ad Personam customer experience and fashion retail will all be on the first floor. The second floor will be available as a meeting location for business and private occasions. It will also be open to the public for events like art exhibitions.

To celebrate the collaboration and grand opening of THE LOUNGE, Yohji Yamamoto designed a custom wrap fitted to a Lamborghini Aventador S.

The wrap features the same design shown in the teaser earlier this month with swaths of white and red against a black background and phrases like “big”, “LOL”, and “grey” in Katakana characters.

The color way continues in the interior as well.

As I mentioned earlier Yamamoto is also releasing a capsule collection as part of the collaboration that features a mod coat, bomber jacket, and hoodie. Each piece of apparel features the same design found on the vinyl wrap applied to the Aventador.

It is unclear if any of those items will be available for purchase online but if I had to make a guess I would say that it is all exclusive to that location.

When it comes to the wrapped Aventador, in my opinion I think some elements work better than others.

I dig the exterior wrap as the design and patterns are very striking. I also think due to its impermanence as a “wrap” I’m more open to the wild, slightly abstract design.

The interior is a different story. As far as I can tell, everything inside the car was done through custom upholstery and there is a lot going on in there. A little too much for my taste. I do appreciate the artistic nature but I don’t think I’d go that far myself. Then again, I’m not a fashion designer.
