Team Worthouse Is Pulling Out Of Formula Drift And Releases James Deane

In a shocking development, Team Worthouse, one of the most dominant teams in drifting has announced that they are withdrawing from the 2020 Formula Drift season and that three-time champion James Deane would be leaving the team. Though, the statement did not say that James’ teammate Piotr Wiecek would be leaving the team as well.

As far as why the team is pulling out of the series after being so dominant? Well, as you might have guessed, the global pandemic is the main culprit. With Worthouse being based in Europe, running a full season in America already came with its logistic and financial challenges. With those same challenges being compounded by COVID-19, it created a situation that was insurmountable.

This is definitely a hard hit to Formula Drift as the team has a huge fan following. The comradery and rivalry between James Deane and Piotr Wiecek was always a story point for each season. The two drivers definitely share a close friendship off the track as well.

It should be noted that there is no bitterness from the team or either driver on this news. James Deane thanked the team in his statement saying “Worthouse drift team gave me the keys to follow my dreams and compete against the best in the world professionally in Formula Drift. It’s been an incredible three years together winning 3 championships and multiple events and what we achieved has blown past anything I could have ever dreamed of. I really appreciate the support the team provided me and will be forever grateful to Piotr and everybody involved in making this dream become a reality.”

Piotr was equally thankful and made sure to acknowledge his friendship with James saying “The last three years were like a dream come true for me. With James we have built something really special, something we can all be proud of. James was always my toughest competitor on the track but most of all a great and true friend. I believe our friendship will stay as it always was. I have enjoyed every moment of our journey and I am grateful for everything James brought to the team. I wish him every success in this new chapter we are about to start. The great story we wrote together is something I will never forget.”

It is not yet known what will happen next for the team, James, or Piotr; though I would speculate that James will likely sign with a new team in 2021 while Team Worthouse will continue campaigning with Piotr in Europe.

Not having an excellent team like Worthouse and two great drivers like James and Piotr on the grid will certainly be a bummer for fans. On the other hand, the absence of two dominant drivers really shakes things up for the 2020 season.

Without the twin Worthouse S15s to worry about, the 2020 Formula Drift season will be even more competitive. It is very likely we may even see a first-time champion this year.

What are your thoughts on James Deane and Piotr Wiecek being absent from the 2020 Formula Drift season? With two dominant drivers gone, which remaining driver do you think has the best shot at the 2020 championship?

Team Worthouse press release

After three consecutive successful years in the United States, it is today announced that the Worthouse Drift team will be withdrawing from the 2020 season. Furthermore driver James Deane will no longer be driving for the two car outfit.

2020 has presented a host of difficulties with the pandemic. These enduring effects are the main reason for not attending the championship. Both drivers will be pursuing independent programs in their own time.

Piotr and James created a legacy within the sport as their great achievements went hand in hand with their great friendship. Worthouse drift team was focussed on representing Europe proudly on the grid and creating moments that will be with both drivers for a lifetime.

James Deane: “Worthouse drift team gave me the keys to follow my dreams and compete against the best in the world professionally in Formula Drift. It’s been an incredible three years together winning 3 championships and multiple events and what we achieved has blown past anything I could have ever dreamed of. I really appreciate the support the team provided me and will be forever grateful to Piotr and everybody involved in making this dream become a reality.”

There is great respect and gratitude towards James and everything he achieved in his time on the team. Worthouse Team will continue to support him as a friend and competitor.

Piotr Wiecek: “The last three years were like a dream come true for me.

Piotr Wiecek and James Deane each begin a new chapter as of now, and both look to the future positively. 2021 plans for each driver are currently in progress, these will be communicated when they are complete.

Thank you,
Worthouse Drift Team
