Michael Jordan’s 1996 Mercedes Benz S-Class S600 Coupe Is Up For Auction

I just finished watching The Last Dance on Netflix a few days ago and I loved every minute of it. As a guy who was born in the 80s and grew up in the 90s, getting a behind the scenes look at “His Airness” was pretty freakin’ awesome.

While the doc primarily focused on Michael’s exploits on and off the court, occasionally the show did give quick glimpses at some of the awesome vehicles MJ was pushing during his tenure with the Bulls.

Many people don’t know that Jordan was a card-carrying gear head. He built up quite the collection of cars actually. Who knows how many he still has but it looks like at least one of them is up for sale.

Right now on eBay is MJ’s 1996 Mercedes Benz S600 complete with a set of Lorinser wheels which were a mid 90’s staple on cars like this. Wheels aside, this car is stock. Although, when activating the car phone unit, the very 90’s LCD screen says “JORDAN”. I’m not sure if that was a custom feature requested by MJ or if all S600s had the name of their owner pop up.

It also seems to be in excellent condition for a 24 year old car. It has definitely been driven with the odometer clocking in at about 157k miles. It’s unclear how many of those miles were put on the cay by Jordan and his ex-wife versus the current owner.

The auction started on August 13th with a starting bid of 23 dollars (get it?).

Though as of the writing of this piece, the bidding currently sits at $201,700 USD. With just under three days left to bid the auction ends on Sunday which just so happens to be the 23rd of August (detecting a theme here).

Of course the car will come with all the appropriate documents to verify that the car was in fact owned by Michael Jordan. Technically both Jordan and his ex-wife Juanita were listed on the pink slip. If you need a small bit of

While anything that was formerly the property of Michael Jordan is bound to fetch a lot of stacks, I’ve got to believe that The Last Dance documentary bringing MJ back into the cultural conversation has a significant amount to do with the interest in this car.

It would be nice if the car came with a set of Jordan 1s but I suppose that would be asking too much.

I’ll be watching the auction this weekend so look for a follow up post when it ends to learn how much the car sells for. Or you could just visit the auction page yourself.

In the meantime check out the gallery for a closer look at the Benz that MJ drove around just two years before his incredible 1998 NBA season.
