No matter where you sit on certain issues, we can all agree that there is a lot going on in the world right now. That’s why you could be forgiven if you didn’t realize that Indy Car made it’s return to racing this weekend at Texas.
The Genesys 300 at Texas Motor Speedway was the first official race in the 2020 Indy Car season. A season that many of us started to worry wouldn’t even happen due to complications from COVID-19.
Speaking of, this race took place with absolutely zero fans in the grandstands and the absolute minimal staff required to execute the event all in an effort to keep everyone safe.
It should also be noted that this race marked the official debut of the new windscreen mandated by Indy Car to protect drivers from being hit by objects during a race and to provide more protection during a roll over.
So far the windscreen seems to be working well. Though luckily its direct impact worthiness has not yet been tested.
When it was said and done Scott Dixon took the race win with a dominant performance leading 157 of 200 laps. Simon Pagenaud finished second while two-time Indy Car champ and avid ping pong player Josef Newgarden took the 3rd place podium spot.
The next race is scheduled for Independence Day 2020 at Indy Motor Speedway. The race is scheduled to start at 12:15pm eastern time so it should serve as a test of interior heat capture with the new windscreens. Should be interesting.
All in all, I’m just glad Indy Car is back! For race highlights, check out the video below.
