Will This Fan-Created Knight Rider KITT Lego Set Come to Stores? Maybe
If you’re an ’80s kid, you’ll want to focus up. It looks like we may be mere steps away from an official LEGO Knight Rider K.I.T.T set. This is not a drill! Between the rumored upcoming Knight Rider film and this Lego set, fans of the ’80s series—including myself—should be buzzing about this news.
K.I.T.T. in Brick Form
If you’re of a certain age, then you probably watched Knight Rider every week in the ’80s and dreamed about having your very own K.I.T.T. Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am. The closest I ever got was the K.I.T.T.-themed big wheel I had when I was a kid. There are plenty of fans who have built 1:1 replica cars out there, but for people who don’t have the time or cash for such a project, this Lego set is a great way to go.
Despite being made of plastic bricks, this set does justice to K.I.T.T.’s lines and shape. Naturally, it includes the iconic “scanner” rendered here in translucent red Lego pieces. The original disc-style wheels come through as well. Though the most impressive details are inside the model. The custom dashboard created for the show is completely represented here, down to the yoke steering wheel and positioning of all the buttons, screens, and the vertical lightbars that animated when K.I.T.T. would speak. We also can’t forget that ’80s-tastic tan upholstery.
While the vehicle detail is awesome, I think my favorite part is that it comes with a trio of minifigures based on the main characters of the show: Bonnie Barstow, Devon Miles, and the man himself, Michael Knight, famously played by German pop sensation David Hasselhoff. The Michael Knight minifigure even has the famous semi-afro hairstyle!
All told, the set is made up of 963 individual pieces and is 13.2″ inches long, 6.3″ inches wide, and 3.1″ inches tall. That’s much bigger than the usual Speed Champions set, but not as massive as the high-dollar Lego Technic automotive sets that come out every few years. Which puts it in a sweet spot that should work nicely as a desk display piece.
A Fan Designed Project
So, how is it that we are so close to having a legit K.I.T.T. Lego set on the horizon? It’s all thanks to the Lego IDEAs program. For the uninitiated, the IDEAs program is an official platform for amateur Lego designers to show off their creations and concepts. Participants can submit their designs, and fans can vote to support them. If a design reaches 10,000 suporters then Lego will review the design internally and decide if it has what it takes to become an official Lego set. If so, Lego will work with the creator to bring the set to market, with the creator receiving a share of sales.
That is where Lego IDEAS member “Jerboa” finds themselves with the Knight Rider K.I.T.T. model they created. The design officially reached 10,000 supporters in July 2025 and entered review in September 2025. Now, it’s a wait to see if the set gets approved. If so, it could go up for pre-order this year for a 2027 release.
There’s no way to know exactly how much the set will cost when it releases, but it will likely range from $100 to $200. Regardless of the price, I think it is safe to assume that if this set makes it to market, it’s going to sell out fairly quickly. If for no other reason than the novelty of owning a Lego version of “the Hoff.” Hopefully, one of those sets will make its way into my rapidly increasing Lego backlog.
In the meantime, I’ll keep an eye on this model for updates. If Lego gives this set the green light, are you planning to pre-order it? Let me know in the comments below or on Threads.
