New Acura RSX Teased Ahead of Monterey Car Week
Ladies and gentlemen, we have our first look at the new Acura RSX and if you’re of a certain generation, it’s not what you think it is. The RSX made its debut in 2002 as a sporty front wheel drive coupe meant to replace the outgoing DC2 Acura Integra. Since then, the Integra has returned in top form and has won the hearts of purists and the general audience alike. So, if the Integra is back, then what could a new RSX be?
If you guessed an all-electric SUV then you’d be correct. That news may shock those that remember the RSX of old, but times change and SUVs rule the day. It’s unclear why Acura chose to resurrect the RSX badge in an electric SUV form factor. It would seem that bringing back the RSX name is a strategy meant to capitalize on the name’s cachet, but that cachet exists because of an entirely different audience that had its eyes firmly set on sport compact cars with low-displacement, high-strung VTEC engines.
Though, it should also be considered that the audience that fell in love with the RSX back in 2002 is now 23 years older and in a totally different stage of their lives with different priorities. The new RSX might just be the nostalgia play needed to woo some new and “seasoned” buyers over to its brand in the highly competitive electric SUV market.
The teaser image doesn’t reveal much beyond the front fascia and it looks properly aggressive. If it were not for the dimensions of the large air damn, the RSX could easily be mistaken for a sports coupe. Unfortunately, we don’t see much beyond that in the teaser. However, the automaker says that new RSX is based on its “Performance EV Concept.” That concept should give you a rough idea of the RSX’s dimensions.
The full reveal is set to happen at Monterey Car Week this year, and Acura says the new RSX is slated to hit dealerships in the second half of 2026 which could likely make it a 2027 model. For now, Acura regards the new RSX as a prototype. Once we get more info at Monterey Car Week, we’ll make sure to share it with you so stay tuned.
