Acura RSX Prototype Electric SUV Revealed: What We Know So Far

The Acura RSX has officially returned. The new RSX prototype was just revealed at Monterey Car Week after Acura dropped a teaser image a week ago. Along with a full unveiling of the RSX prototype’s design, Acura has also shared a few scant details. Let’s dig into it.

You’ve Sorta Seen It Before

If the RSX Prototype looks familiar to you at all, that’s because it is largely based on the Acura “Performance EV Prototype” that the automaker brought to Monterey Car Week in 2024. The silhouette is largely the same with some slight re-working to the front and rear fascias, headlights, and taillights. It also has clearly defined pop-out door handles and an updated set of wheels.

There don’t seem to be any design cues that call back to the original RSX coupe, but that is hardly a surprise. It’s clear his is an RSX in name only and Acura wants it to fit within its new design direction and product philosophy. While it would be neat to have a call back or two to the old school RSX, it’s understandable why such things would have been left on the design room floor.

A New Homegrown Platform

The new Acura RSX will be the first model engineered in-house on a new Honda-developed EV platform rather than the GM-developed Ultium platform that the Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue sit on. The new RSX will also be the first EV produced at the Honda EV Hub flexible manufacturing facility in Ohio with parts made “domestically and globally” according to Acura.

The Return of ASIMO

When Acura dropped the teaser for the RSX, we explored the logic behind bringing back the badge after having previously been attached to a two-door sport compact car. We didn’t know it at the time, but another name is also returning from the past along with the RSX: does anyone remember ASIMO?

ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility) is a humanoid robot developed by Honda in 2000. Honda designed the robot to assist people with daily tasks in their home and beyond. ASIMO is most famously known for a daily exhibition it would do at Disneyland.

Today, Acura has revealed that the operating system for the new RSX will be called ASIMO OS. ASIMO OS will be Honda’s new global operating system that is designed to “learn the preferences and driving behavior of the vehicle’s owner to deliver an ultra-personal in-car experience.”

Coming 2026

As the name suggests, this RSX is still a prototype so there is a lot more we don’t know about it; such as range and horsepower for example. Price is another big unknown, but if we had to estimate we would guess that the MSRP will likely land somewhere between $45 and $55k to start.

Expect a slow drip of more information rolling out from Acura over the next six months or so since the RSX is set to hit dealerships in the second half of 2026.
