Generally speaking, luxury cars aren’t known for being fast, light, or nimble. That’s not really what customers of those cars are looking for most of the time.
If someone is in the market for a $200k plus luxury car they’re typically looking for extremely luxurious interiors, classy looks, and a flashy exterior.
Yet, Bentley tends to buck those trends. Since they originally released the Continental over a decade ago, Bentley has continued to push performance while keeping as much luxury as possible.
At first glance it seems that Bentley had quite the uphill battle in this case. The Continental GT Convertible weighs over 5,300lbs and the particular car sent to Matt was equipped with the twin-turbo V8 engine rather than the V12.
Though, it should be said that twin-turbo V8 makes 542 horsepower and enough torque to push all of that weight from 0 to 60mph in under four seconds. At least, that is what the spec sheet says.
How well does it perform in practice?
Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire got his hands on the new Bentley Continental GT Convertible so that he could see for himself how well Bentley managed the balance between performance and luxury.
Off the bat Farah was very much impressed with the fit, finish, and creature comforts like heated arm rests and messaging seats. Matt did not spend a whole lot of time talking about the exterior but it is a very good looking car. There is no way this Bentley doesn’t turn heads, even in neighborhoods where six-figure cars are the norm.
Though, all of that is just half of the story. If you want to know what Matt thought of the Bentley Continental GT Convertible’s driving prowess just check out the episode of The Smoking Tire “One Take” below.
