Fresh off celebrating a historic victory at the Indy 500 last weekend, Honda has just revealed that they will be enlisting a 2020 Civic Type R for pace car duties during this weekends double-header Indy Car race this weekend in St Louis.
Honda has provided pace cars for the Indy Car series since 2006 but this might be the first time a Type R model has paced an Indy Car field in America. The 2020 Civic Type R will be sporting the new “Boost blue” paint color along with a custom graphics wrap.
Other modifications for the pace car include a Honda Performance Development (HPD) brake package (competition rotors, racing pads and stainless steel brake lines), a full roll cage, 4-point racing harnesses, and obviously a full pace car exterior strobe light set up.
Before you get your hopes up, its very unlikely that Honda will offer this pace car package for sale to the public. In fact, this particular car may just be a one-off for this weekend only. Honda hasn’t confirmed if the Civic Type R pace car will serve at any other races on the 2020 Indy Car Series schedule.
But hey, if we’re lucky maybe someone will recreate this design in Forza Horizon 4?
