Hype: Dodge Announces “The Demon” AKA A More Powerful Hellcat

When Dodge released the Hellcat versions of the Charger and Challenger I was pretty much convinced that the Dodge engineers at SRT managed to sneak one past the financial department and score a rare victory for the enthusiasts.  A 707hp production car that doesn’t cost six figures?  Something like that could never happen again right?  Well it looks like the  accountants have been locked in a closet because Dodge SRT is teasing something they call “The Demon”.

According to Dodge, The Demon is a “transformation” of the Hellcat and is specifically targeted at enthusiasts who “know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation.”

The Demon will come in the form of a 2018 Dodge Challenger and is set to make its debut at the New York Auto Show this year.  The question is: how much farther can they go?  I mean, the Hellcat has 707 horsepower for God’s sake!  What will The Demon have? 800? 900?  If they wanted to stick with the theme they’d make it have 666 horses but that would be a step backward.

The other question that comes to mind is about the drivetrain.  Will The Demon be all wheel drive?  Dodge has already announced their venture into AWD in the form of the Challenger GT which goes into production this month.  Given that, it isn’t hard to imagine that the SRT team may just reach for that AWD brass ring.

For now, all we have to go on is the official announcement and a Transformers-style teaser video.  However Dodge has launched a microsite for The Demon at IfYouKnowYouKnow.com and as time passes and we get closer to the New York Auto Show more videos and possibly more information will be released so if you’re curious I would suggest visiting that site and bookmarking it!

In the meantime you can watch the first teaser video below as well as read the press release.  What do you think final numbers for The Demon will be?  Do you think it will be AWD?  Let us know your thoughts in the comments or tweet to us @MotorworldHype.

“Most cars attempt to be everything to everybody. Then there are the rare few that revel in a single objective, rendering them totally irresistible to a subculture,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT – FCA North America. “The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is conceived, designed and engineered for a subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation.”

Leading up to the New York reveal, Dodge is launching its first-ever pre-debut video teaser campaign, including a new website www.ifyouknowyouknow.com, where fans and followers can get weekly updates, download sharable content and gain insight into the SRT Demon’s engineering prowess.

In the first video, “Cage,” which debuts today, the ferocious animated Hellcat is back. Refusing to be caged, the beast transforms, thus beginning a new chapter in the Dodge brand’s performance legacy.

In the coming weeks, Dodge will bring fans and followers in on more details by slowly peeling away layer upon layer of the new Challenger SRT Demon via video shorts that highlight the engineering prowess that has gone into its development.

All videos in the series will be featured at www.ifyouknowyouknow.com. A countdown clock tells viewers when the next installment will be uncaged. The final chapter arrives when the SRT Demon is revealed in New York City, prior to the New York International Auto Show.
