Movie Hype: Tron Legacy Director Tapped To Helm Gran Turismo Movie
Back in 2013 I reported the confirmation that a movie based on the Gran Turismo racing game franchise is in the works. Other than some somewhat vague details about the plot being based on the GT Academy journey of a gamer moving from the couch to a real life racing seat. Well after two years it looks like there is some more movement on the film according to the Hollywood Reporter with a story that Joseph Kosinski, the director of films like Tron Legacy and Oblivion is negotiating with Sony to direct the Gran Turismo film.
This could be good or bad depending on your opinion of Kosinski’s aforementioned films Tron Legacy and Oblivion. I haven’t seen Oblivion but I have watched Tron Legacy and I actually enjoyed it a lot (I even bought the blu ray). However, there are also a lot of people who didn’t like those films. For what its worth, after watching the documentary KAZ (a film about Gran Turismo’s creator Kazunori Yamauchi) I have to say that I think Kosinski’s visual style may lend itself well to the direction that Kazunori may want to go with this flick.
As of now, there is still no definitive word on when the Gran Turismo movie is slated to be released or what the story will actually be (the THR report sites that the script is being re-written). But, if I hear anything else I’ll be sure to fill you in! In the meantime what do you think about this news? Do you think Joseph Kosinski is a good choice to direct the Gran Turismo film? If not who would you choose to direct? Did you even remember that this film was being made? Let me know your thoughts in the comments or you can tweet them to us at @MotorworldHype
