Sony Honda AFEELA EV Will Get Gran Turismo Theme and Sounds

Ever since Sony and Honda announced its AFEELA EV collaboration, many (including myself) have joked that the vehicle could become a rolling PlayStation 5. We know now that is pretty much the case, but at CES 2026 Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) detailed just how far the PlayStation functionality will go in the AFEELA electric sedan, and I think it’s pretty damn cool.

PlayStation 5 On Wheels

PS5 owners might be familiar with the PlayStation Portal, a handheld device that allows PlayStation owners to play their games while they’re away from home. It works via PlayStation’s “PS remote play” feature which can stream games that the user owns directly from their home console or a remote server through an internet connection. SHM has confirmed that the AFEELA will be getting that exact same functionality. Passengers in the front or back can stream PlayStation games straight to the screens built into the AFEELA. A PS5 Dual Sense controller can be paired directly to the vehicle.

It was mentioned that remote play can be handy for entertainment on “long road trips,” which suggests that the vehicle does not have to be stationary to play games. I would imagine that means games will only work on the screens that aren’t easily visible to the driver as to not be distracting.

As someone that owns a PS5 and PlayStation Portal, I can say that PS remote play works pretty well as long as there is a strong internet connection available. Anyone who has been on a long road trip knows that Wi-Fi and LTE service can get pretty spotty, so it remains to be seen how well remote play functionality will work in practice. If I ever get the chance to test it out, you’ll be the first to know about it.

AFEELA PlayStation UI Themes

The PlayStation integration doesn’t just stop at remote play. It was confirmed that the AFEELA will get infotainment UI themes based on several first party PlayStation games. We don’t know exactly how many themes will be available in total, but Astro Bot and Gran Turismo were both mentioned. SHM didn’t go into deep detail on how the theming will work, but from what was shown menus and icons and system sounds will all align with the chosen theme.

Though, it doesn’t stop inside the car. One of the images shown during the presentation reveals that game logos can be presented on the digital display between the front headlights. Furthermore, themes will include the external artificial engine sounds. So, a user may decide that they want their AFEELA to sound like Astro Bot’s space ship as it shuttles around a grocery store parking lot.

New AFEELA Model Revealed

In a “one more thing” moment toward the end of the presentation, SHM announced that it is already working on an SUV model which is currently dubbed the AFEELA Concept 2026. Details are scarce, but SHM explained that opted for an SUV form-factor to offer “greater spatial flexibility and accessibility.”

The SUV market continues to be massively important to automakers, so offering a larger AFEELA model is a no-brainer. It’s also a signal that SHM is serious about making the AFEELA a player in the very competitive sedan and SUV markets. SHM says the AFEELA Concept 2026 is aiming for a U.S. market launch in “early 2028.”
