Last year I reviewed WRC 8 from the standpoint of someone who is terrible at rally racing games. Unfortunately in the time that’s passed since then, my skills haven’t got much better. Though my enjoyment of rally racing games hasn’t decreased either.
That’s why I’m glad that despite my absolutely bunk skill-level, I was still sent a copy* of WRC 9 to try out. Though I didn’t get as much time to dive in as before so instead of doing a traditional “review”, I figured it would be better for me to just provide my impressions after playing the game for a while.
If you’re looking for more of an in-depth review, then I would recommend checking out these videos from the Jimmy Broadbent, SimRacing604, and Viperconcept YouTube channels.
If you still want to know what I think, just check out the video below.
*Note: I was sent a Xbox One version of WRC 9 and I played on an Xbox One X console.
If you don’t have the time then here is the TL;DW (too long; didn’t watch):
- This game is designed for players with sim-racing set ups.
- WRC 9 was definitely intended for play with a wheel like something from Fanatec.
- You can play with a controller but it can be frustrating due to accurate and unforgiving physics.
- It has a ton of content for hard-core WRC fans to enjoy.
- WRC 9 runs at 30fps on Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.
- It will get a 4K 60fps update for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
- If you’re hard-core and have a sim-wheel setup then this is for you.
- If you’re casual and prefer a controller, then skip this and get DiRT 5 when it comes out.
