Hype: Is Gran Turismo Sport Actually Gran Turismo 7? Yes And No According To Kazunori Yamauchi (Video)
I’ve had the pleasure to meet and speak with a lot of people in the automotive culture. I’ve interviewed race car drivers, custom car builders, tuners, and artists. However, the one person that I have never interviewed before was the mythical Kazunori “Kaz” Yamauchi, the godfather of the Gran Turismo video game series. Kaz-san is a very busy man and its really not easy to get time with him. I’ve tried for years and was repeatedly unsuccessful. Then, a few years ago I got lucky and met him at a Gran Turismo event in LA but I was so unprepared that the interview did not go very well and it was not worth publishing (trust me on this one). After that I thought I would never get a chance to speak to the man again. However, fortune smiled on me and I was lucky enough to be invited to a special event to get a presentation about the newest game in the GT series, Gran Turismo Sport, led by Kaz himself.
Needless to say, this time I was ready. I didn’t have a lot of time with Mr. Yamauchi but I did get to speak to him about his insight for creating Gran Turismo Sport. He had a pretty shocking reply which you’ll see in the video below. He also touches on the new GT Sport physics system, and what he knows about the mysterious PlayStation 4 “Neo”. I invite you to scroll down and watch! Also I want to thank Kazunori-san, the GT Explore Studio, and Super Street (of which you will see a full Gran Turismo Sport feature soon) for the opportunity.
