Let me paint a word picture for you: You have your eye on a particular wheel but you are unsure how said wheel will look on your car. You then go to your forum of choice and make a desperate plea that someone “photochop” the wheel onto a picture of your car. Instead, forum trolls come out from under their bridge and begin an epic flame war hurling insults such as “your car is teh sux!!11″ and “mY eG CiViC PwNs U!” then the power-drunk forum mod closes your thread and nothing gets accomplished except raising your blood pressure. All too familiar isn’t it?
Well the guys at SSR Wheels found away for you to avoid all of that grief. If you have a particular SSR wheel in mind for your car simply download their SSR Wheel app for your iPhone or iPad, take a side profile picture of your car, then use the app to apply any one of their wheels to your car with some simple touch screen drag & drop action!
If this glorious innovation has not brought you to tears yet you will certainly sob after I tell you that this app is totally free! Yes! Gratis! Now, go fourth and wheel shop ’till your heart’s content!
The wheel wizards at Enkei Japan are working on a new light-weight racing wheel dubbed the RS05RR to help shave laptimes on track cars. Word has it that even in the early test phases the wheels managed to shave .05 seconds off their 350Z track car. That might not seem like a lot but in racing conditions that could be the difference between 1st and 2nd place. So far there is no word on availability or pricing but I would expect a wheel like this to be in the range of a Volk TE37 price-wise.
Work Wheels is adding to their “Gnosis” line with the new HS203 wheel. It is basically your classic five-spoke star wheel but the guys at Work had European cars in mind during its design. The HS203 is made to order in Japan and they have a few options laid out for users. There are five different finish options as well as the option to go full reverse-barrel (19″ or 20″) or step lip (20″ or 21″). These wheels look like they are forged but they are actually made through “low pressure casting”. Which I am sure is a much better process than traditional casting but I would like to see a new forged wheel from Work in the near future.
Recently wheel gurus HRE decided to get nostalgic and breathe new life into designs they penned many years ago (think 80s) for the super cars of that era (Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini). Dubbed the “Vintage Series” these designs add some serious retro-class-goodness to today’s 458 Italia, Murcielago, and 911. If you want to see how these throwback rollers are born then you should definitely check out the video below. If you love wheels then you will thank me for this!
Vorsteiner’s newest wheel offering is suited specifically for the Ferrari 458 Italia and the new BMW F10 5-series. Dubbed the VS-130, the new 5 spoke forged monoblock shoe features a concave design with scalloped spokes (for sake of weight saving) looks right at home on both the Ferrari and the BMW. What strikes me the most about the VS-130 is how well it lends itself to its intended applications. It makes me wonder why Ferrari or BMW didn’t think of such a great design for their OEM wheel in the first place. If you are the lucky owner of a Ferrari 458 or an F10 5 series, I think the VS-130 are definitely wheels to consider.
Rays Engineering has just finished the new G25 and Mackin Industries gave the world a preview on their facebook page. All I can say is that the new G25 looks beyond fresh! This is going to be a popular shoe in 2012 mark my words! There is no information on pricing or availability yet but I am sure MackinIndustries.com will have all that soon.
Just a few days after the official debut of the sportier Bentley Continental GT, Vorsteiner has pulled the wraps off their new BR-10 tuning package for the new Bentley Continental GT coupe! The BR-10 package includes a 5 piece (front spoiler, two side skirts, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler) aero kit made from pre-preg autoclaved carbon fiber and the package is finished off with a set of 22 inch VS-130 forged monoblock wheels. The wheels are actually optional but if you spring for them Vorsteiner can powder-coat the wheels in any shade that you desire. I am really loving the look that BR-10 adds to the GT and the fact that all the aero pieces are made from carbon fiber means customers can spare themselves the guilt of adding weight for the sake of vanity. I would have liked to see Vorsteiner produce an exhaust system to go with the package but I can imagine they probably have one coming down the pipe (no pun intended) in the near future. To see the new BR-10 package from all angles check out the video and pictures below.
Vorsteiner BR-10 for the New Bentley Continental Coupe
The BR-10 edition, birthed from the New Bentley Continental GT Series, consists of a 5-piece lightweight carbon fiber aerodynamic package constructed with our state-of-the-art pre-preg autoclave technology.
Our designers & engineers worked meticulously to create a masterpiece nothing short of a magnum opus for this timeless coupe: a highly exclusive and most elite aerodynamic body and wheel package with nothing to detract and everything to enhance the beautiful purity of the factory body.
Firstly, our designers start with an alluring and tasteful 2-piece add-on front spoiler that improves the down force of the front end while directing cool air into the radiators. This cutting-edge front spoiler supplies the perfect touch of elegance and sportiness to the nose of the car while maintaining functional aerodynamic contours with an add-on central carbon splitter, further improving the down force with a GT race car focus. This all-new BR-10 front spoiler sits 40mm lower than the original factory bumper and confidently exudes a powerful presence on the road.
In partnership with this new lower clearance of the BR-10 front spoiler, a full length 2-piece add-on side skirt element utilizing a carbon fiber sill extension was carefully crafted, improving aerodynamics and downforce at high speeds.
The BR-10 carbon fiber replacement rear diffuser element fits seamlessly into the original factory rear bumper and accentuates its characteristic aggressive sports car like disposition. Additionally, the BR-10 lightweight rear carbon diffuser houses dual aerodynamic fin extensions all while retaining the original rear brake light housing, adding a remarkable muscular and technical detail to the rear.
Maintaining the precise balance of the new additional down force created by the front end, a sporty add-on gurney deck lid spoiler sits on the factory boot lid made of our token pre-preg autoclave technology.
Finally, the absolutely stunning VS-130 series wheel, a 22-inch 5-spoke Forged Aluminum Monoblock, is offered alongside Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 Tires. The wheels are an optional add-on to the BR-10 aero package and are always custom powder coated or painted to the clients’ desired finish specifications.
This is just a quick heads up that we made a few changes here in our humble little corner of the Internet. Mainly we have added new categories to help you sort through posts better in the future. It may seem like a lot of new categories but the idea is to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. If you look to the far right of the page you will see all the new categories listed. If you are too lazy to use your ocular muscles to move your eyes in that direction I will just list them all here for you for a quick run down:
American Cars: If it is about a Ford, GM/Chevrolet, or Chrysler/Dodge it will be in this category
Asian Cars: Normally I would have just called this category “Japanese Cars” but the Korean Cars are “so hot right now” . As you may have guessed any post about an Asian Car be tagged with this category.
European Cars: Same drill as above. If it is German, British, Italian, French or from anywhere else in Europe it will be here. This includes supercars!
Exterior: Anytime we hype something that goes on the outside of your car that improves performance or makes it look better i.e. body kits, wings, spoilers, decals, etc. it will go here.
Gaming: We have done a lot of gaming related posts lately so now they will get their own category. If it has anything to do with holding a controller or wheel peripheral then it will be here.
I.C.E.: I.C.E. stands for “In Car Entertainment” but you should already know what that means. Basically anything that would fall under the car audio category would go here but you might see a few other cool gadgets here as well.
Interior: As the title suggests any time we hype something for the inside of your car that does not necessarily fall under the I.C.E. category it will be here. Things you might see here are really cool air fresheners to leather wrapped bucket seats from Recaro.
Motorsports: If it has anything to do with racing it will be here. Expect everything from updates on F1, Indy Car, Rally, and Drifting to hype on Motorsports gear like racing suits, helmets, gloves, etc.
Performance: Anytime we hype something that improves the performance of your car in any area (power, grip, handling) it will go here.
Video: Another self-explanatory category. Any time we post a “Hype Video” it will be in this category.
Wheels: This category is for the wheel-freaks out there. All “Wheel Hype” posts will be in this category from now on.
There you have it, a full rundown of the new categories. We went back to populate some of the categories with past posts but since we have a few THOUSAND posts since we started we naturally could not go back and re-categorize them all so you may notice that right now most of the new categories are pretty sparse but over time they will grow with new posts. We hope this change will make navigating our site a little bit easier for you. If you have any questions, concerns, feedback, etc. please feel free to post in the comments!
It has been a while since we’ve had some good wheel hype here. Allow me to end the drought and present to you the new AECROS wheel from Volk. The AECROS wheel is a part of Volk’s new “ECO Drive” series targeted at eco-friendly performance vehicles like the Honda CR-Z. The AECROS is forged and weighs in at a scant 15.4lbs per wheel so you definitely wont hurt your fuel economy with a bunch of added weight. However, the most important part about the AECROS is that it looks F’ing FRESH! It is nice to see that despite being targeted for the tree huggers Volk did not dumb down their design for this wheel. While they look great on a CR-Z these wheels would probably look great on just about anything!
There are some pretty wack/tacky/lame car mods out there but this one stands alone in its magnificence. In the video below you will see a previous gen BMW 7 series sporting some incredibly bright LED lights inside its wheels! Now while the idea is pretty tacky we have to admit we are impressed with how they were able to get the lights behind the spokes without affecting the brakes. Still, this looks pretty stupid. However we do think this would be much better applied to say, a Formula Drift car?
P.S. You might want to hit the mute button as the only sound in this video is really annoying wind noise.
