Posted on 05.23.11 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

The cool book-like brochures that you used to pick up at the dealerships when you were car shopping are starting to go the way of the dinosaur as more and more of the populous invest in tablet devices like the iPad and XOOM.  Car companies like Audi and now Mercedes Benz are saving money and trees by producing brochure apps instead of books for their new models.  The latest app from Mercedes Benz is for the new 2012 CLS.  Within this app you can take virtual tours of the inside and outside of the car to get a closer look.  You can also customize a 2012 CLS within the app using all the available options to spec one out just the way you’d want it.  If you want to start playing around with your own virtual CLS just search the Apple App store for “Mercedes-Benz 2012 CLS”

Press Release:

MONTVALE, N.J. – Taking its digital reach to the next level, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) has introduced the Mercedes-Benz MY ’12 CLS-Class iPad App. This application is the first of a series of MY ’12 product apps and is available now through the Apple App Store for free.  Users can find the app by searching “Mercedes-Benz 2012 CLS.”

Through logical placement and smart navigation, the app provides a smart, user-friendly experience that includes virtual tours of the interior and exterior of the vehicle, as well as an “Explore” section that allows users to customize the CLS. Over the last year or so GoPro cameras have pretty much established themselves as the “go-to” (see what I did there?) sports camera system.  Their tiny cameras shoot with great HD quality and are constantly utilized by film makers of various genres.  To keep up with the emerging 3D trend GoPro has released the 3D Hero System that allows for the combination of two 1080p GoPro “Hero” cameras to connect via special cable and record stereoscopic 3D video!  You can really add a whole new dimension (see that? I did it again!) to your action videos now!  Scroll down for a video explaining how the setup works.

SEMA New Product: G-TECH Pro FANATIC Precision Series

Posted on 11.12.10 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

The G-TECH meter has been a part of our scene since 1994 but after 2007 they kind of disappeared for a bit.  At this year’s SEMA show G-TECH is making a come back with their new Pro FANATIC Precision Series.  It isn’t officially available yet but the newest model incorporates a GPS for more accurate horsepower, torque, and 0-60 measurements.  This new model will also have track timing and segment timing with immediate in car results.

With many similar products on the market now, what will really determine the new G-TECH’s success is its price point which has yet to be released.  We will keep you posted.

GReddy Simulator iPhone App (@Greddy_Power)

Posted on 06.28.10 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

Just as the new iPhone 4 hits Apple stores nationwide GReddy has released their very own iPhone App called “GReddy Simulator“.  What does it do? Basically, it lets you experience what its like to have various GReddy bits in your car.  By mounting your iPhone in your car the app utilizes the phone’s accelerometer to give accurate representations of what types of read outs you would get if you had say, a GReddy boost gauge.  The app also knows when you shift so if you have it in Type RZ Blow Off Valve mode, you can expect a healthy pressure release sound! You can do all kinds of fun stuff with this app if your phone is mounted in your car or not.  And to top it off the GReddy Simulator only costs 2 bucks!  Just head to the iTunes app store to download it.  My only gripe is that this app wasn’t developed for Android or Windows Mobile powered phones.

Posted on 02.26.10 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

A long time ago RJ and I were having a conversation about technology and he made a prediction that cell phones would replace laptops and PC’s.  At the time I thought he was nuts but now I’m starting to think he was onto something!  AEM has this new gadget called the “X-WiFi Wideband UEGO” and it will wirelessly beam engine vitals to your phone!  Can you believe that?  If I told someone about this back in ’96 they would have had me committed.  Check out the video below to see the X-WiFi in action.

Porsche Design P’9522 Phone

Posted on 02.18.09 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

I saw this on Autoblog.  Porsche Design just released a new touch screen phone that looks like it should be in a Calvin Kline commercial.  It’s called the P’9522 and its body is made from aluminum and the touch screen is a special scratch resistant glass.  It even has a cool fingerprint reader so you dont have to fiddle with the damn “lock” and “unlock” function!  Not sure what operating system this phone is running but it would be pretty cool if it had Windows Mobile 6 or Google Android.

Press Release:

Mobile Phone P’9522: Purist design and technical precision

Porsche Design Group (Porsche Lizenz- und Handelsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG) is introducing its new mobile phone P’9522. The mobile phone, available now in Porsche Design Stores and in specialist shops, is blending a linear shape with innovative communications technology.

The Porsche Design P’9522 is milled from a single solid aluminum block and a single sheet of scratchproof glass, its finish is pure and sleek. The rough, raw materials used to build the P’9522 have been crafted to underscore the refined design. In combination with its quintessential black and brushed aluminum finish, the P’9522 represents the timeless and authentic design philosophy of the brand. The P’9522 has the very latest communications technology together with excellent sound and picture reproduction:

- Display. The touchscreen display makes navigating through the menus smooth, easy and intuitive. The AM OLED display ensures top quality color reproduction and brightness.

- Mobile navigation. The phone has a built-in GPS receiver for mobile navigation purposes. The 2.8 inch widescreen display makes it easy to read the information on the screen.

- Finger print sensor. Access to personal data is secured by means of a sensor which identifies the user’s finger print.

The P’9522 thus reflects the brand’s clear design language and lives up to its promise of blending together high quality materials, top of the range workmanship and innovative technology.

Porsche Design is a luxury brand with particular focus on technically inspired products. The brand was founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, and since then its products have stood for functional, timeless and purist design. The product portfolio includes classic men’s accessories, a sport and fashion collection as well as electronic products and a men’s fragrance range. The products are designed in the Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See, Austria, and sold worldwide in own stores, shop-in-shops, high quality department stores and exclusive retail outlets.

Nine Artists Photographs

The P’9522 is both a premium cell phone and a design accessory. Its pure and timeless design have provided the inspiration to nine international photographers to produce works which reflect the combination of design, luxury and technology, while at the same time preserving the style of the original artists.

The works are on display at the «Porsche Design Mobile Phone Experiences» exhibition. The traveling exhibition will take place in Paris, Lisbon, Milan, Hamburg, Moscow, Beijing, Hong Kong and Dubai between September and November 2008
