For most car guys, one of the best ways to waste time online is to visit a customizer tool for the car of their choice and play around with the hundreds, sometimes thousands of possibilities for a custom spec’d ride. As of late OEMshave caught onto this and to their credit have made steps to make customizers even more entertaining to play with. Ford has been at the forefront of this movement with their latest 2013 Mustang customizer that actually gives users points depending on how they spec out their model; essentially turning the configuration experience into a game. Well, rumor has it that Ford is going to take yet another step in that direction by making the 2013 Mustang customizer available on Xbox Live tomorrow.
Users will be able to spec out their model using a controller instead of a mouse and it is said that the customizer Xbox app will even come with items for your Xbox Live avatar like a Mustang racing suit, hats, and shirts. Even though I am not the biggest Mustang fan, even I have to admit I am kind of looking forward to playing with the app. In the meantime you can still play around with the official customizer online right now.

American manufacturers have a history of underrating the horsepower figures on their muscle cars. It is a practice that has been going on since the 60s and continues today. Take Ford and their new 2013 Shelby GT500 Mustang. If you ask Ford, they will tell you that the new GT500 makes 650hp at the crank when in reality it will make that much at the wheels, suggesting a crank figure that is closer to 700hp. With stock numbers like that most would suspect there is much more power on tap with a little tinkering under the hood; which is exactly what Evolution Performance did once they got their hands on Ford’s new pony car.
They decided to see how much more the GT500 would breathe with a few basic bolt-ons (intake, exhaust, drag tires) and unleaded race fuel. The result was a 9.95 quarter mile time at 142mph! Pretty impressive for a car that has an MSRP of just under $55k is it not?! If you are finding this claim hard to believe just scroll down and watch the drag video for yourself!

This just hit the ol’ inbox a few moments ago. It looks like our buddy Neil Tjin is buliding a 2011 Ford Mustang for SEMA this year. Expect a full dismantle and rebuild from the Tjin-master as well as a supercharger, Forgestar wheels, and a custom body kit designed by Neil himself and produced by Extreme Dimensions. If you want to keep up with the build then add neiltjin.com/blog and facebook.com/semabuildups to your favorites!
September 8th, 2010 Laguna Niguel, CA – Tjin Edition continues to push the envelope and step outside the box with their latest project, a brand new 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0 GT. Over the past 7 years, Tjin Edition has partnered with some of the top OEM manufacturers in the world including Chevy, Pontiac, Scion, and Honda; this year for the first time ever Tjin Edition will be joining forces with Ford Motor Company.
Tjin Edition led by Neil, Mei, Gene, and Collin Tjin along with Brian Garin and Mike Hyun from Real Auto Works in Long Beach, California will have their hands full as they are completely transforming a brand new black 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0 GT for this years SEMA show.
Tjin Edition teamed up with Josh Cloud from Gurnade Design Firm, and Cloud was put in charge of producing the rendering for the Tjin Edition Ford Mustang 5.0 GT. As with all Tjin Edition projects, the Mustang 5.0 GT will be completely stripped, gutted, and transformed into a truly impressive piece of automotive machinery. With the new 5.0 -V8 motor in place, it comes as no surprise that Tjin Edition has teamed up with Vortech Superchargers, MagnaFlow Exhaust, American Racing Headers, Nitrous Express and Royal Purple.
Besides the “GO” aspect of this build, this Tjin Edition Ford Mustang 5.0 GT will be sporting a custom DuPont Cromax Pro paint job, which will be handled by Luis Rodriguez from L&R Paint and Body in Orange, California. This one of a kind Mustang will also be outfitted with a Webasto sunroof, Unique Fabrication metal wing, Light WurkZ LED headlights and fog lights, Ignited HID’s, StreetGlow lighting, custom Third Shift Studio emblems, Trent Trick Upholstery bolts, and a custom designed Tjin Edition / Gurnade body kit, which will be produced by Extreme Dimensions.
The Tjin Edition Ford Mustang 5.0 GT suspension will be highly modified with a brand new, fully digital air suspension kit from Air Lift, and an Eibach anti-roll kit and trailing arms. The Mustang fenders will be tucking a custom set of brand new 20″ Forgestar
CF5 (Concave Forgestar 5-spoke) wheels, which are matched up to super wide Falken tires. Sitting nicely behind the Forgestar wheels are a massive set of front and rear Baer rotors and calipers, which will help this supercharged Ford Mustang stop on a dime.
Real Auto Works will be completely transforming the interior and audio set-up in the Mustang with a set of custom wrapped Status Racing seats and harnesses, Auto Meter Ford gauges, a STACK cluster, Innovative Motorsports 0T-2 unit, a AZENTEK smart mirror, a Recaro baby seat, Scosche wiring, Optima batteries, a Metra double-din trim panel, a Pioneer head-unit, and Image Dynamic speakers, subs, and amplifiers.
Weekly updates on the Tjin Edition Ford Mustang 5.0 GT will be available at the 2010 SEMA build-ups Facebook page, (http://www.facebook.com/semabuildups), the Tjin Edition twitter page (http://twitter.com/TjinEdition), as well as on Neil Tjin’s blog (http://neiltjin.com/blog/). Tjin Edition would like to thank Ford and all their amazing partners for this wonderful opportunity, and they are excited to debut their 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0 GT in the Air Lift Company booth (#23533) at this years SEMA Show!

Hes retired then hes not retired he sells one company and starts another. You just can’t predict good ol’ Steve Saleen. He just can’t walk away from his love of building badass domestics. His latest is an anniversary edition of sorts called the SMS 460. Its meant to celebrate the 45th birthday of the Mustang and his 25th year in this business. The SMS 460 is what you’d typically expect from a Saleen: aggressive body work, a supercharged V8 making 450+ horsepower, and a slick interior (this one has alcantara all over it).
More info in the press release below.

Mustangs with 2010 SMS 460 Mustang
Orange County, California. (April 17, 2009) Steve Saleen, his name being synonymous
with fast Mustangs, would not be Steve if he kept his hands off Ford’s newest pony. On the
occasion of the 45th anniversary of the launch of the original Mustang in 1964, and in
reflection on his 25 year association with America’s iconic sports car, Steve celebrates with
Mustang aficionados from around the world in launching first sketches of the 2010 SMS 460
and SMS 460X Mustangs at the 45th Anniversary Celebrations in Birmingham, Alabama.
Instantly recognizable as Steve Saleen’s work, the
new SMS 460 Mustangs
feature a host of visual and
technical highlights that set
them apart from the crowd.
“I previewed many of the
features of my newest
Mustang with the 25th
anniversary car I showed
last year,” says SMS
Supercars CEO and
President Steve Saleen.
The front fascia treatment, the SMS Red Butterfly Air Induction HoodTM, the front and side splitters, the rear fascia and diffuser with the high downforcerear wing showed the way Steve Saleen is looking at Mustangs today. “You have to gowith the times. While the Mustang remains an icon, Ford has done a very good job with the
2010 model. I wanted to interpret it using my signature to create the latest Steve Saleen
version of this American favorite.”
The SMS 460 Mustang offers a 4.6 liter V8 engine featuring a minimum 470 hp and 427 ft-lb
of torque, while the even more powerful SMS 460X Mustang engine with all new internal and
headwork delivers 655 hp and 600 ft-lb out of the enlarged 5.0 liter V8. Both use the new
(patent pending) SMS 296 Supercharger presented last week at the New York International
Auto Show. Transmission options are a 5-speed automatic or 5-speed manual on the 460 or
a 6-speed SMST manual on the top of the line 460X.
Performance for both cars is expectedly striking. The 460 Mustang accelerates from 0 to 60
in the low 4 seconds, while the 460X manages the same in the lower 4′s. In addition to
engine output, handling, roadholding and braking play an equally important role. The 2010
SMS 460 Mustangs feature Steve’s signature Watt’s linkage suspension with all-new
geometry. New SMS brakes front and rear deliver impressive stopping power to match the

Steve Saleen may have retired but he definitely didn’t go away. Recently he launched his new venture SMS Supercars which like his first company is pretty much designed to turn a OEM car into a beastly Saleen one-off. The SMS Mustang 460 is the the latest offering in a long line of custom ‘stangs from Saleen. It’s a 4.6 liter V8 but the horsepower options go all the way up to 650. One of the coolest features to me is the fully functional butterfly intake integrated into the hood. Even though I’m not the biggest mustang fan I have to admit, that’s pretty fresh.

These days there is a special edition Ford Mustang for just about everything. If someone told me there was a colgate toothpaste edition Mustang I wouldn’t be surprized. However I finally came across a special edition that actually holds my interest and that my friends is saying a lot because I still don’t like Mustangs all that much. Roush Performance put 2 and 2 together and created a P-51 Mustang fighter plane themed..uh..Mustang. Along with all the usual Roush goodies the P-51A Roush Mustang features a paint scheme and limited edition badging.

I think we’ve all experienced the joys of randomly coming across a fresh ride. We’ve made a decision to attempt to document those instances in blog posts we call “SPOTTED”. If RJ or myself come across a car that is sick enough to hold our short attention spans for longer than 5 seconds then it’s probably going to end up as a SPOTTED post!
In the inagural post I’m spotting MotorworldHype reader Koji Kanemoto’s Veilside Mustang. He is only one of four Mustang guys in the US who has this kit. As you may recall RJ himself snagged up one when he built the Valvoline Challenge Mustang a while back. Besides the Veilside kit there is also some “go” under the hood as this ‘stang is sporting a polished Roush supercharger.
After looking at Koji-san’s Mustang I’d have to say I’m totally feeling it and thats a BIG deal because typically I despise Mustangs! However Koji’s car is one I’d love to have in my Garage.
I know what you’re thinking. “How does this car qualify for SPOTTED if its a reader’s car?” Well after Koji sent me this picture I realized that I’ve seen this car before…At WalMart of all places! Long Beach represent!

Yes you read the title right, Veilside does make a body kit for the Ford Mustang. In fact it might even look a little familar to you. That’s probably because this is the same body kit that RJ used when he was building the Valvoline Challenge Mustang giveaway car. If you weren’t lucky enough to win that car it doesn’t mean you can’t still get this body kit for your ‘stang. Check out Veilside to see if they have any left.
