Hype Preview: C-West Subaru WRX GRB Body Kit

Posted on 10.27.09 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

C-West is working on casting their aerodynamic sourcery on the current Subaru WRX GRB model.  This rendering is a sneak peek on what the end result should look like.  I love the kit but I hate that grill scoop!  What is with the J-aero guys and that blasted grill scoop?!  Maybe you’re into it, we all have our preferences right?  Anyway keep an eye out for this one in the near future.  Hopefully that grill scoop will be more of an option instead of a “feature.”

Password:JDM Dry Carbon Undertray Diffuser For Honda S2000

Posted on 06.16.09 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

Sometimes people make carbon fiber aero parts for show and other times they’re made just because everyone knows they work.  That was the case when Password:JDM decided to manufacture a dry carbon undertray diffuser for the Honda S2000.  The designers at Password:JDM have seen this aero treatment work beautifuly and they just had to do it.  So luckily all the S2000 owners out there have an opportunity to benefit from the engineering compulsion of the Password guys!

J Line 7RL2

Here is another clean design by J Line.  While many consider 5 spoke being “classic” I’ve always loved a good 7 spoke wheel.  The straight edged spokes on the 7RL2 give an agressive feel without going too crazy.  A set of these would look fresh on a widebody NSX.

TRUST Lug Nuts

If wheels are like shoes then lug nuts are like “phat” laces that add contrast and that touch of unique flavor.  Here is a set that is made by TRUST Japan(Greddy’s parent company).  This set is a short style with a tapered end made specifically for aftermarket wheels.  The cool part: The TRUST company logo is etched on one of the faces and comes in a slick titanium gold finish.

2009 Nissan GT-R Spec V Lives!

Posted on 01.12.09 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

The rumors all this time were true!  Last week in Japan Nissan finally revealed the GT-R Spec V AKA Godzilla on steroids.  I’ll start off by saying you really have to LOVE the GT-R to want this Spec V.  Think of it like a very limited special edition of a GT-R rather than a totally different version of it. It’s nearly double the price of a regular GT-R (the US dollar equivalent is about $170k) but there is no increase in peak horsepower.

The Focus of the Spec V is reducing weight, improving braking, bumping mid-range power, and improving handling.  I suppose the marquee feature of the Spec V is a Brembo carbon/cereamic brake package that Nissan claims would cost over $45k on its own.  Those very pricy brakes are tucked away inside exclusively designed Rays Engineering wheels.  To save weight they removed the backseat and placed carbon fiber EVERYWHERE.  Even the speaker enclosure is carbon fiber! The freaking Key Fob is carbon fiber!

One of my favorite features is an “overboost” button on the steering wheel.  Push it and you’ll have instant increased boost and mid-range torque which could be used for any number of reasons but we’ll go with overtaking at the track.

All in all the Spec V is pretty fresh.  Is it worth double the price of a base model GT-R?  Well, a wise man once told me that something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

There is tons more about this car and even more pictures over at GTRBlog.com.  They had a ninja there that covered everything you need to know!  Below I also have the press release from Nissan and a cool vid.  Although, the video is in Japanese but hey, that wont stop guys like us from enjoying it anyway!

Press Release

TOKYO (Jan. 8, 2009) — Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced a new limited-production Nissan GT-R SpecV model, which goes on sale at seven specially selected Nissan dealers throughout Japan on February 2, 2009. The GT-R SpecV is targeted specifically at enthusiast drivers who desire race car-level performance in a street-legal vehicle.

Developed around the multi-dimensional Nissan GT-R sports car, which was introduced just more than one year ago to universal global acclaim, the new SpecV model builds on the original’s “ultimate supercar that anyone can enjoy driving anywhere, at anytime” philosophy - taking it to an entirely new level of “oneness between man and machine.” The SpecV model includes unique body, interior and performance equipment and modifications, raising the GT-R’s unmatched performance to even higher levels.

The GT-R SpecV’s new exterior features include a carbon fiber rear spoiler, a carbon fiber grille, and carbon fiber brake ducts. The SpecV is available exclusively in Ultimate Black Opal (RP) body color. Inside, the SpecV’s unique two-seat interior (non-SpecV GT-R models also include a two-place rear seat) offers special Recaro carbon fiber bucket seats, while carbon fiber insets embellish the rear center storage box, instrument panel and other trim areas.

Performance is enhanced with a new high gear boost control device, which momentarily increases boost of the engine’s twin turbochargers for greater torque in the intermediate-to-high speed ranges to provide a more powerful feeling of acceleration, while also allowing the engine to operate at a lower speed for improved fuel economy. Other modifications include a titanium-coated exhaust system and carbon-ceramic brakes that provide powerful stopping performance.

The GT-R SpecV is also equipped with lightweight, racing-style forged aluminum wheels that were developed for this model and have been sold by Nissan Motorsports International (NISMO) since September 2008. The lighter unsprung weight provided by the new wheels, together with the enhanced braking capability, an exclusive suspension and high-grip tires, combine to deliver the SpecV’s exceptional performance.

The SpecV will be sold at the following seven dealer outlets, each of which is staffed by mechanics with special GT-R SpecV training and who are knowledgeable of racing circuit driving.
