Car Care Hype: Mr. Cartoon Launches “Sanctiond” Car Care Products

Posted on 04.18.12 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

It seems like these days successful people never just do one thing anymore.  No one is “just an actor” or “just a singer” or “just a critically acclaimed tattoo artist and Los Angeles mainstay”.  That last bit applies mostly to the man known as “Mr. Cartoon”.  Mr. Cartoon is one of, if not the most sought after tattoo artist in the country.  Not being satisfied with just human skin, Mr. Cartoon has used cars as his artistic canvas in recent years, designing some amazing low-riders and one of the craziest ice cream trucks I have ever seen. Well, now Mr. Cartoon is adding “car care mogul” to his arsenal of talents by launching his own car care product line “Sanctiond“.  Mr. Cartoon took feedback from professional automotive painters and detailers to create a line of washes, waxes, spray detailers, conditioners and more to service people who are excessively particular about what touches their ride.

If you’re wondering how a tattoo artist from Los Angeles is going to manage a car care brand then you would probably want to know that Mr. Cartoon hired Atticus Firey as his CEO.  Who is Atticus Firey besides a guy with a really cool name?  He is the guy who grew Meguiars so much that 3M bought them.  It seems like Mr. Cartoon has all of his ducks in a row to make Sanctiond a considerable player in the car care market.  If you want to try it out for yourself Sanctiond products just hit online and retail stores this month.

Press Release:

German Hype: HAMANN Hawk Roadster

Posted on 03.14.12 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

I really like the Mercedes SLS AMG.  I also really like the Mercedes SLS AMG roadster.  In stock form I think both cars are great, awesome even.  Which is why I am torn by what HAMANN did with it in their new “HAWK” tuning package which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show a short while back.  While I am a die-hard proponent of the aftermarket, there are some cars that I think should just be left alone for the most part.  The SLS AMG is one of those cars in my opinion.   However, despite its busy nature (non functional vents, etc) I actually find myself becoming a fan of this package.  The wheels look great and the aero package really does lend itself to the original lines of the car.  The red carbon fiber in the interior is a bit much but I think I like the exterior treatment.  I also give credit to HAMANN for boosting power a bit by including a re-worked chip and exhaust system in their tuning package.  What do you think of the “HAWK”?

Nissan Hype: Tommy Kaira “Silver Wolf” GT-R

Posted on 03.05.12 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

Remember Tommy Kaira?  My first exposure to the Japanese tuner was the very first Gran Turismo for Playstation.  Their one-offs of Japanese supercars were wet dream fodder for any Japanese car enthusiast.  Well despite the economic downturn Tommy is still kicking and still tinkering with Japan’s best.  The “Silver Wolf” is Tommy Kaira’s take on the Nissan GT-R.  Their package is mostly superficial though with the crazy body kit you see in the picture plus a completely redone interior.  Although they do add some performance with a titanium exhaust and improve stopping power with an AP Brake kit.  I will say they took it too far with the sicssor doors though.  A bit over the top there Tommy!

Anyhow if you want the exterior parts for yourself, the complete kit will set you back about 1,600,000 yen or just under $19,600 USD.  Not to mention a 4 to 6 month wait since everything will be coming to you via boat from Japan, which means you would probably want to spring for the “Godzilla insurance”…

Wheel Hype: Work Wheels Gnosis HS203

Posted on 02.27.12 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

Work Wheels is adding to their “Gnosis” line with the new HS203 wheel.  It is basically your classic five-spoke star wheel but the guys at Work had European cars in mind during its design.  The HS203 is made to order in Japan and they have a few options laid out for users.  There are five different finish options as well as the option to go full reverse-barrel (19″ or 20″) or step lip (20″ or 21″).  These wheels look like they are forged but they are actually made through “low pressure casting”.  Which I am sure is a much better process than traditional casting but I would like to see a new forged wheel from Work in the near future.

Hype Preview: Vorsteiner Teases 991 Porsche Carrera & Carrera S Tuning Package

Posted on 02.24.12 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

The new Porsche 991 Carrera and Carrera is upon us and Vorsteiner is ready for it.  Today they released a teaser rendering of what the new Carrera will look like once they are done with it and from the looks of things I think this new package will be a hot ticket among Porsche-fanantics.  Their “V-GT” program will address all four sides of the vehicle (front spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser, and rear duckbill spoiler) while also replacing the bonnet with a more aerodynamically sound sculpted piece.  As usual all the aero pieces included with the package will be made from Vorsteiner’s autoclaved pre-preg carbon fiber.  Vorsteiner is also throwing in a set of forged aluminum wheels (20 or 21 inch) and a titanium exhaust system with valve control.  Pricing and availability have yet to be released but I am sure if you contact Vorsteiner they can probably direct you to a dealer who will be taking pre-orders.

Parts List:

• Front Add-On Spoiler with integrated brake duct collectors Carbon Fiber Pre-Preg Autoclave
• Front GT Replaceable Center Splitter for additional downforce in Optical Carbon Fiber Pre-Preg Autoclave
• Side Skirt Panels with Integrated Carbon Fiber Blade Extension Element
• Lightweight re-sculpted front bonnet in Carbon Fiber Pre-Preg Autoclave
• Rear Add-On Diffuser with Integrated Aero Fins Carbon Fiber Pre-Preg Autoclave
• Rear Add-On Ducktail Wing Spoiler Element Carbon Fiber Pre-Preg Autoclave
• Lightweight Replacement Carbon Fiber Roof Panel
• 20 inch | 21 inch Forged Aluminum Wheel Options
• Stainless & Titanium Sport Exhaust Systems (Valve Control)

Nissan GT-R Hype: BenSopra Wide Body Kit

Posted on 02.21.12 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

Widebody Porsches are nice (Thanks RWB) but I personally would like to see more widebody Japanese cars so I should thank BenSpora for what they are doing with the Nissan GT-R.  If you have not heard of BenSopra of Japan it is likely because they normally deal with Lamborghinis but with the resurgence of godzilla, BenSopra has decided to apply their talents to Japan’s favorite supercar.  While there are not many widebody kits for the GT-R I will say I really like what BenSopra has done here.  My favorite part about the kit is that the entire front end is actually one piece.  I am not sure if that improves aerodynamic efficiency much but I just think its cool that they took that step, and I am not the only one that thinks so.  GReddy chose BenSopra to outfit their 35RX top speed time attack car.  In fact, if you live state side and you are interested in a BenSopra kit for your GT-R you can actually order one through GReddy instead of doing it the hard way and trying to go through BenSopra Japan directly.  I am guessing it is only a matter of a few months before we see the first BenSopra kit stateside.

Hype Collab: Voltex Japan x Evasive Motorsports Honda S2000 Body Kit Available In March

Posted on 02.13.12 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

Way back in 2009 the guys from Evasive Motorsports began a collaboration with the aero masters of Voltex Japan on a body kit for the Honda S2000.  Evasive offered up a brand new S2k for the Voltex artists to scuplt upon and evetually a prototype was made.  Evasive then spent the next year and a half developing and testing the kit at time attack events and numerous trackdays.  Now after all the sketching, sculpting, testing, and driving Evasive has announced that their Voltex collab kit will finally be available for public consumption this year with first shipments arriving in March.  Hopefully you found some way to pre-order this kit from them a long time ago, otherwise you are probably looking at a pretty lengthy waiting list.  Although I would probably say the wait will be worth it!

Hype Collab: Lotus Evora x AMEN x Nike

Posted on 02.02.12 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

The collaboration thing is still going strong in “street wear” culture.  For the most part I ignore it, but occasionally some of that stuff spills over onto the automotive side and that is when I get interested.  The latest collab to touch on the automotive segment is what you see above.  Nike and street wear brand AMEN decided to launch their latest collab shoe by having artist Paul Snowden design a wrap to celebrate the union.  I am sure  your opinions on the result will vary but nonetheless I find it interesting when other cultures/arts find ways to mix in with our world.

Wheel Hype: Vorsteiner Forges VS-130 For Ferrari 458 Italia And BMW F10 5 Series

Posted on 01.25.12 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

Vorsteiner’s newest wheel offering is suited specifically for the Ferrari 458 Italia and the new BMW F10 5-series.  Dubbed the VS-130, the new 5 spoke forged monoblock shoe features a concave design with scalloped spokes (for sake of weight saving) looks right at home on both the Ferrari and the BMW.  What strikes me the most about the VS-130 is how well it lends itself to its intended applications.  It makes me wonder why Ferrari or BMW didn’t think of such a great design for their OEM wheel in the first place.  If you are the lucky owner of a Ferrari 458 or an F10 5 series, I think the VS-130 are definitely wheels to consider.

Ferrari Hype: Watch RTW Motoring Transform a Ferrari 458 Italia With Mansory Package (With Video)

Posted on 01.20.12 | Andrew Beckford No Comments

I have seen Mansory’s treatment of the new Ferrari 458 Italia only a few times in person so I was beginning to think that their masterfully designed tuning package was never going to make it here and the car I saw was simply a one-off.  Today, I can say I was wrong as RTW Motoring (the official distributor for Mansory in the U.S.) announced that the Mansory Ferrari 458 package is now available stateside.  While that wont change my life much, it is cool to know that there is a greater possibility of running into a Mansory Ferrari 458 the next time I go to Cars & Coffee.  As you will see in the video below the Mansory package is very elaborate to say the least.  If you count the individual parts of each element, the aero package alone is over 30 pieces!  Many if not all of those pieces are made from glorious, beautiful carbon fiber.  However to keep things on the tasteful side only certain areas will have visible carbon but as you will see, the visible carbon is in all the right places.  The package also comes with LED daytime running lights, fog lights, an exhaust system, and a set of 20 inch center lock wheels.  The end result is in my opinion, beautiful.  If you agree and also are kicking enough ass at life to be able to afford such a thing, you can order your Mansory Ferrari 458 Italia package from RTW Motoring.
