Well, it looks like it is official. Forza is coming to smartphones. I speculated on this last month when it became clear that there is a very large chance that E3 2019 could be the first in a while in which we wouldn’t see a new Forza console game revealed.
I thought a mobile game (which was accidentally leaked) would likely serve as the replacement announcement. However, we are still two months out from E3 and Microsoft decided to go ahead and announce Forza Street now which I definitely did not see coming.
Even more surprising is that not only was Forza Street announced today, it is available to play right now. Although it is only available for Windows 10 devices. That basically narrows down the list to Surface tablets and Windows 10 PCs.
Forza Street will come to iOS and Android but that won’t be until “later” this year. My suspicion is that those versions will launch at E3 2019. Likely during the Xbox Press event.
In the meantime, you can check it out right now on your PC or Windows 10 tablet. I’ve only played it for a few minutes so I can’t give a full review but so far its interesting.
The first thing I noticed is that this is unlike a traditional racing game, Forza Street is all about timing and “quick time” events. The player essentially has to hold down and release the throttle at precise times to get through corners correctly. I know something like this will instantly turn off a lot of hard core Forza fans but I am willing to give this a chance.
