The Civic Type R has 305 horsepower out of the box making it the most powerful Civic Honda has ever produced. Though the question is: are 305 horses really enough?
If we’re being honest with ourselves, the answer is “yes of course that’s more than enough”. But let’s face it, gearheads are never honest with themselves!
That’s exactly why the wizards at Hondata continue to work their magic on Honda ECU’s to trick them into squeezing more power out of their respective engines.
Their latest creation is a re-work of the Civic Type R’s ECU to gain up to 58 horsepower depending on the type of fuel used.
91 octane will get a gain of 33 horsepower and 39 ft-lbs of torque, 93 octane gains 47 hp and 72 ft-lbs of torque, and E25 (25% ethanol) gains 58 hp and 79 ft-lbs of torque.
It should be noted that in the case of E25, a pre-mixed blend was used and flex fuel sensors are not supported by the software.
Also, before this tune can be used via the Hondata “FlashPro” unit, you’ll have to send your ECU off to Hondata to get jailbroken which could take a few days and possibly void your warranty.
If you’re cool with that then the tune & FlashPro will set you back $695. Not a bad price considering the potential power gains on the table.
Beyond the power gains, the FlashPro has a few other neat features to such as 20 hours of datalogging, dual calibration storage, and Bluetooth connectivity so it can be accessed with your smartphone.
