Super Bowl LII was probably the best Super Bowl game in the last 5 years or so. That was great for the football fan in me but the gear head in me was disappointed by the small number of proper car commercials.
Normally when we do this we’re able to come up with a list of commercials we loved and commercials we hated.
Though, this year only four automotive brands aired proper “big game spots”. This left us with pretty slim pickings.
So we decided to just talk about our top three favorite ads from the big game instead.
Third place: RAM Trucks “Icelandic Vikings/ We Will Rock You”
It has been a while since I’ve had a good laugh at a car commercial. They are usually so serious, edgy, or dramatic. This RAM Spot featuring Vikings car pooling to the game has a great mix of epic imagery and humor.
Second place: Toyota “Good Odds”
This is probably one of the best commercials I have ever seen from Toyota. It is inspirational without being preachy and gives an excellent message and Toyota doesn’t let their own branding get in the way of it.
First place: Hyundai “Hope Detector”
Dry eyes were rare in the room when this Hyundai commercial was over. It was not only deeply moving but the way they pulled it off technically was awesome. This commercial was essentially created during the game! Hyundai owners who stepped through “Hope Detectors” at the stadium in Minneapolis were given an emotional surprise.
