Towards the end of the year it became public that Electronic Arts (EA) exclusive contract with Porsche for their “Need For Speed” series was finally coming to a close. While their Partnership with Porsche worked out very well for EA, it was the bane of fans of other racing games like Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo because EA’s contract meant that Porsche could not be a part of those games unless their creators paid up to EA.
Turn 10 Studios actually did pay EA to include Porsche in their Forza Motorsports games but since the cost was so high they had to pass it on to their consumers in the form of a paid expansion pack. While Gran Turismo just omitted Porsche all together.
Now that EA’s grip on the Porsche brand is over, Porsche is making its way back into other racing franchises. Gran Turismo announced on twitter that Porsche will be a part of Gran Turismo Sport when it releases later this year.

Turn 10 Studios is getting in on the Porsche action now by releasing a Porsche DLC car pack for Forza Horizon 3 yesterday. While it is still paid DLC it is more in the line with their other DLC car packs that go for $6.99 rather than the $20-$30 that the Porsche Expansions used to cost.

From this, we could probably guess that there is a pretty good chance that Porsche will probably be a part of the Forza Motorsport 7 car list at launch as well.
Hopefully, this doesn’t mean that Porsche won’t be in the next Need For Speed game. While EA got a lot of hate for their hold of the Porsche license but I don’t think they should be denied having Porsche in their games in the future.
