Gran Turismo Sport is easily one of the most anticipated racing games right now. This is especially true since the game has already been delayed once and as of now we currently have no hard release date for it other than “2017”. Polyphony Digital has brought playable versions of the game to conventions like E3 and The PlayStation Experience, most thought that it would be a long while before the public at large had a chance to try GT Sport for themselves.
However that time seems to be coming up much sooner than later; to an extent at least. The godfather of Gran Turismo Kazunori Yamauchi announced that Polyphony Digital will be launching a closed BETA test for GT Sport and it will begin on March 17th, 2017 in the U.S.
Participants in the BETA will “be able to choose from a select rotation of cars and tracks each day to race online against others during the BETA phases.” It was also noted that track and car selection will vary during the BETA test and they will try to provide an even mix of race class categories and track configurations.
It looks like participants of the U.S. GT Sport closed BETA will be randomly chosen from U.S. PlayStation Network (PSN) IDs so the only way to know if you made it into the BETA test is to keep checking your PSN inbox. We already know we won’t be chosen because well, we don’t have a PlayStation 4 (yet).
As mentioned before this first BETA test is only for U.S. players but Kazunori did say there will be a “phase 2” of the BETA that will be for European players. For a chance to get into the phase 2 test, sign up for the PlayStation Europe forum and look for the related thread.
As far as we can tell there is nothing to suggest that GT Sport BETA participants are restricted from recording game play so hopefully after this weekend we’ll see a lot of cool GT Sport video popping up on YouTube!
In the meantime Polyphony Digital has released the “opening movie” for the closed BETA which you can watch below. Have you been chosen for the GT Sport BETA? Let us know in the comments or tweet to us at @MotorworldHype.
