Hype: Project CARS 2 Announced. Will Release This Year (Video)
Project CARS has a reputation for being among the hardest of the hardcore when it comes to racing simulators. In fact it is so hardcore that I recommended that it should only be played with a wheel rather than a traditional controller. The graphics were amazing and when it came to PC the team behind Project CARS pushed the envelope with giving the game the ability to be played in 12k resolution (via three 4k monitors linked together)! Though, the game did have a few short comings. The main one was a very short car list. Well, today publisher Bandai-Namco has announced that Project CARS 2 is coming and this time it is bringing a lot more cars with it as well as new tracks.
Project CARS 2 will have over 170 licensed cars and they claim it will have the “largest track roster of any console racing game ever”. There will also be new vehicle types like RallyCross and Indy Car. Project CARS 2 will also be optimized for VR support and 12K play is coming back (though obviously the 12K is only for the PC version). Though I am sure Project CARS 2 will still be pretty hardcore, they are looking to revamp the handling so that it is a little more friendly to players using a controller.
Project CARS 2 is scheduled for release in “late 2017” so we are hoping that we will soon get even more information about it as the months tick by. In the meantime you can check out the official trailer and see screenshots below by clicking on the thumbnails. For more info you can also read the official press release below as well.

Project CARS 2 features an expanded roster of over 170 cars and 60+ tracks, brand-new fan-requested Online Championships game mode, and additional racing disciplines – including ice, dirt, snow, and mud racing – over its critically acclaimed, ground-breaking predecessor (Project CARS™). All of this racing action can be presented at up to 12K* resolution graphics (PC) with VR support, making Project CARS 2 the most immersive and technically advanced racing simulation experience.
“We’re thrilled to pull off the covers on our publishing partnership with BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment and finally share more details on our latest build with Project CARS 2.” said Stephen Viljoen, Game Director for Project CARS 2. “Our collective goal at Slightly Mad Studios is to create a simulation racing experience that rivals that of real-life. Realism and authenticity are central to our development mantra for Project CARS 2, hence we’re making sure we employ the best professional drivers, game developers, artists, and sound engineers to realize our vision for a game that takes players on the ultimate driver journey.”
*12K resolution is achieved through linking three 4K PC monitors together to present a panoramic driver’s view.
