E3 2016 is coming up fast and Turn 10 Studios has gotten into the habit of announcing a new Forza game every year at E3 alternating between its “Motorsport” series and its open-world “Horizon” series. Last year was the debut of Forza Motorsport 6 so we have a pretty strong inkling that this year we are going to get a Forza Horizon 3 announcement. Anyone who has played any of the previous Horizon installments knows that the game centers around an automotive and music festival that completely takes over a given location. Because of this, the locations in Horizon games are very important and are practically characters that are a part of the narrative.
The first Horizon game took place in plains and mountain roads of Colorado, USA. Forza Horizon 2 expanded its map and focused on southern Europe mostly the south of France and Northern Italy which made for an amazing mix of drivable areas. Now that we are probably nearing the announcement of Forza Horizon 3, we are curious as to where the team from Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios will take the Horizon Festival next. After some deep thinking we came up with three possible locations that we’ve listed below in order of what we think is the least likely to most likely.
3. Western Europe
As mentioned before, Forza Horizon 2 took place in Southern Europe and it worked out pretty well. It provided a great mix of terrains and road types to drive on and it was only part of what Europe has to offer. Imagine if Forza Horizon 3 took place in Western Europe? France would still be involved but now Monaco, Switzerland, and Germany are in the mix. Can you say “Autobahn”?
Home to several of the greatest race car drivers of all time, Brazil is a beautiful country with strong ties to motorsport. With its scenic back drops it would just take a few creative liberties with the driving roads there to create a great location for a Horizon game. Turn 10 has already used Rio De Janeiro in Forza Motorsport 6 so the team is well aware of the country’s potential. Besides, the Horizon Festival is a party right? What other country can party like Brazil?
Now I know what you’re thinking and yes, Japan is considerably smaller than any location that Horzion games have previously visited and is also the smallest location on our short list here but hear me out. While small, Japan has an incredible mix of road types and locations. Combine that with the fact that Forza fans have long missed Japanese togue mountain roads since Fujimi Kado in Forza Motorsport 4 and you have a few pretty compelling reasons to take the next Horizon game to Japan.
Well, that is our top three places we think Forza Horizon 3 might take place. While we think Japan may be the most likely place we wouldn’t be surprised or upset if any of these three locations were chosen. The important question is what do you think? Do you agree with any of our picks? Are there other locations that you think would be better for a Horizon game to take place? Let us know in the comments or tweet to us at @MotorworldHype. We’d love to know what you think!
