Just to be on the safe side I am putting this story squarely in the “rumor” category (for now) but it looks like Amazon made a boo-boo (again) and leaked something they shouldn’t have. According to an Amazon listing (which has since been taken down), a Porsche Expansion for Forza Motorsport 6 will be released on March 1st, 2016. For those who may not understand why Porsche isn’t a part of Forza 6 to begin with, I’ll try to briefly explain the situation. A long time ago video game publisher EA (Electronic Arts) bought exclusive rights to use Porsche in video games. Because of this Porsche wasn’t a part of other mainstream video games like Forza Motorsport.
Eventually EA worked out a deal with Turn 10 Studios (makers of Forza) to use Porsche in Forza games. After the deal, it became common practice for Forza to release Porsche “expansions” a number of months after launch of whatever the latest Forza game is. Caught up? Cool!
OK, so for Forza fans this is par for the course. However, when I reached out to Microsoft/Turn 10 to see if the Amazon listing was accurate their reps responded with “No comment.” We already know that there will be a Porsche expansion for Forza 6 as that was already confirmed by Turn 10 before Forza 6 was released. The real issue in question is the March 1st release date.
Everything looks legit, including the image (click the thumbnail for a larger version) that leaked out from the Amazon listing but then again people can do wonders with Photoshop these days.
What do you think? Will the Porsche expansion arrive on March 1st? Or is this an internet hoax? Are you going to get the expansion when ever it does come out? Let us know in the comments or tweet to us at @MotorworldHype.
