So, its looking like the crazy new 2016 Civic Type R isn’t going to coming to American shores. However, that isn’t stopping some devoted fans from launching a significant effort to convince Honda to bring their latest hot hatch to ‘murrica. Namely a Honda enthusiast named Nikos Stoufis has started a petition on Change.org to bring the 2016 Civic Type R to the US of A. The goal for the petition is 25,000 signatures. Before anyone scoffs at that number it should be noted that the petition is already at 23,637 signatures, just 1,363 short of its goal.
Although even if the petition does reach its goal doesn’t mean Honda will actually do anything about it. Its likely that Honda is avoiding the American market because they feel that there aren’t very many people who would pay possibly over $40k. However, at 25,000 signature if you factor that even 5% of those people would actually buy the Civic Type R that’s still 1,250 cars sold. That’s a decent number for a limited production high performance car. Maybe this will encourage Honda to at least consider the idea a bit further.
